To support our continued growth, we are seeking an Field Layout Engineers to join our team.  This position is responsible for providing precise and timely layout information to field personnel and project supervision. This role ensures construction accuracy by staying ahead of trades, coordinating with teams, and verifying installations align with project specifications.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include: 

1. Technical Proficiency

  • Perform various surveying activities, including:
    • Measuring distances according to project drawings.
    • Establishing and labeling survey points.
    • Taking and documenting field notes and sketches for control lines and grade shots.
    • Verifying calculations for accuracy.
  • Provide control lines and elevations for material installation, including:
    • Excavation for foundations and footings.
    • Concrete formwork and rebar clearances.
    • Anchor bolts, piping sleeves, hangers, and supports.
  • Conduct as-built condition checks using surveying techniques.
  • Calculate material quantities for project completion.

2. Construction Knowledge & Interpretation

  • Strong understanding of construction processes, sequencing, and best practices.
  • Ability to interpret civil, structural, architectural, plumbing, and other MEP building plans.
  • Proficiency in working from established benchmarks to determine elevations.
  • Familiarity with anchor bolt drawings and structural drawings (AC-0521).

3. Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Maintain, calibrate, and adjust surveying equipment for accuracy.
  • Ensure proper use of layout tools and instruments.
  • Basic carpentry skills to assist with layout and installation tasks.

4. Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking

  • Apply solid mathematical skills for layout and measurement accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot layout discrepancies and field challenges efficiently.
  • Adapt to changing project needs and resolve conflicts proactively.

5. Communication & Collaboration

  • Coordinate with field personnel and project supervision to ensure alignment on layout needs.
  • Lead crews in measurement, layout, and surveying tasks.
  • Maintain and update as-built records as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate records.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently and lead others when necessary.
  • Dependable and willing to work overtime if needed.
  • Proficiency in reading and working from construction plans.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
  • Experience with AutoCAD (preferred).
  • Experience with Procore (preferred).

Education & Experience:

  • 2 years of technical engineering/surveying training (preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of construction surveying experience (preferred).
  • Strong foundation in basic math and mathematical equations.
