General Summary
The Junior Reliability Engineer collaborates closely with the Reliability Engineer, providing support and undergoing training to develop expertise in reliability practices. This role is responsible for managing the efficiency and administration of the Reliability Area, effectively utilizing available resources, including personnel, materials, time, and funds. The Junior Reliability Engineer is dedicated to enhancing equipment reliability through continuous improvement methodologies and oversees the reliability crew to ensure optimal performance.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)
- Collaborate with the Reliability Engineer on the execution and continuous improvement of Lubrication, Vibration, and Inspection programs by refining job steps, enhancing task descriptions, adjusting execution frequency, and defining acceptable ranges. After a period of coaching and training, take ownership of assigned tasks from the Reliability Engineer or Maintenance Manager.
- Develop and implement an oil analysis program, ensuring proper sampling methodology, result analysis, and execution of corrective actions.
- Apply reliability best practices to enhance plant performance, equipment efficiency, and maintenance processes.
- Supervise the reliability crew, ensuring adherence to safety practices, compliance with MSHA and company guidelines, and fostering a safety-conscious work environment. Conduct daily meetings with the crew to receive feedback, create necessary work orders, and address reported issues.
- Oversee and manage assigned resources, including lubricant technicians, materials, and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and results.
- Maintain and improve lubrication practices, ensuring the cleanliness of the lube room, proper handling and disposal of lubricants, and execution of lubrication analysis and re-lubrication as needed.
- Lead failure investigations, working closely with the Reliability Engineer to analyze equipment failures, implement modifications for improvement, and develop corrective actions. Perform follow-up analysis on repetitive failures and critical equipment. Initiate and lead root cause analysis to identify and eliminate failure causes.
- Ensure systematic review, analysis, and reporting of collected vibration and inspection data, implementing corrective actions as needed. Record and trend measurement results, set acceptable limits, and notify the Maintenance Manager when deviations occur. Maintain failure reporting and corrective action systems.
- Utilize equipment history and documentation to support failure analysis, update vibration measurement parameters, and implement reliability improvements. Stay informed about new technologies and market innovations to enhance failure prevention and detection.
- Perform specialized testing and adjustments, including Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), equipment balancing, and alignment, while maintaining records of results and trends.
- Provide technical support for plant activities, corrective maintenance, and planning and scheduling functions.
- Train, coach, and develop lubricant technicians, ensuring skill development, ownership of tasks, and alignment with departmental goals.
- Manage contractors performing inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment such as compressors, sprinklers, and cranes, ensuring compliance with plant reliability standards.
- Prepare reports and trend analysis, providing preliminary assessments of equipment issues and documenting the results of corrective actions taken.
- Cover for the Maintenance Supervisor when required, ensuring continuity of reliability operations and leadership support.

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software preferred.
- Basic knowledge of Python for data analysis and automation is a plus.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail with an organized, disciplined, and perseverant work ethic.
- Ability to read and interpret technical mechanical and hydraulic drawings.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical team members.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to implement best practices, evaluate results, and adjust as needed.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a team.
