At Bedrock-Recruiting, we pride ourselves on being able to identify and implement industry-leading project processes and methodologies.
Role Overview/Description:
A Hydrogeologist is a geoscientist who focuses on groundwater – studying the distribution, flow, and quality of water beneath the earth’s surface – especially as it relates to engineering and environmental projects. This role involves assessing how projects (like open-pit mines, underground workings, dams, or infrastructure foundations) interact with groundwater: for example, determining dewatering requirements for a mine, evaluating groundwater inflow to tunnels, protecting water supplies from contamination, or identifying suitable locations for water supply wells.
Responsibilities:
- Groundwater Investigations: Plan and execute hydrogeological surveys to characterize groundwater conditions in project areas.
- Hydrogeologic Modeling: Develop and run groundwater models.
- Water Management Design: Work with engineers to design effective dewatering or water control systems for mining or construction operations.
- Environmental Protection: Monitor and ensure that mining or construction activities do not contaminate groundwater or surface water.
- Impact Assessment: Contribute to environmental impact assessments (EIAs) regarding groundwater. Assess how proposed projects could affect groundwater quantity (levels) and quality, and surface-groundwater interactions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all water-related regulations and permit conditions.
- Data Interpretation & Reporting: Analyze hydrogeological data (water levels, pump test curves, water quality trends) and interpret what it means for the project. Prepare clear, concise reports that translate technical findings into actionable recommendations.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with other disciplines – e g , geologists, mining engineers, geotechnical engineers, and environmental scientists.
- Continuous Monitoring & Adaptation: Implement ongoing groundwater monitoring programs during the life of the project.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Experience: Preferably 3+ years in applied hydrogeology or a water resources role.
- Proficiency with hydrogeological and environmental software tools.
- Field skills: hands-on experience with drilling and well installation, aquifer testing, and groundwater sampling.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and water management best practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork, sometimes in remote or rugged conditions
