FUNCTIONAL ROLE

Operate tractor-trailer systems with capacity of up to 40 tons to move materials, tools, and equipment to and from work locations in support of construction and maintenance activities, and/or deliver operating materials and supplies from one location to another.

Other functions include:

Pick up goods and materials, verify loads for accuracy, and deliver them as instructed. Load and unload cargo. Must be willing to perform all tasks required to complete a job or as requested by Supervisors and Management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The main responsibilities of the Transport Driver are as follows:

  • Drives vehicles and equipment to and from designated locations as necessary in performance of regular duties, including maintenance service calls; operates associated devices.
  • Picks up and delivers vehicles, equipment, parts, and supplies associated with work.
  • Demonstrates job skill, procedures, and techniques to crew members.
  • Responsible for maintaining and utilizing current working knowledge and technical skills applicable to the specific requirements of this position.
  • Must make sure all preventive maintenance sheets are 100% complete and follow-up repairs complete.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and write in English.
  • Follow all safety rules.
  • Attend and participate in all safety meetings and training.
  • Use all prescribed safety equipment that is required to safely do the job at hand.
  • Report unsafe acts or conditions to his or her immediate Supervisor or Safety Personnel.
  • Report all injuries, accidents and/or incidents immediately their immediate Supervisor.

On occasion, the employee will need to perform additional duties when the assigned duties are completed.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Position requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to conduct instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Knowledge and understanding of “safety systems” associated with equipment operation including set-up and emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of loading, unloading and transport procedures for equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of and perform proper daily maintenance on equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the proper care of equipment including hours of service requirements.

Comply with DOT and RMP rules and regulations, as well as with NEWMAN company policies and procedures.

  3. Attendance and Reliability - Take responsibility for punctuality. Do not abuse or take advantage of personal time off. Complete all works schedules on time and assure quality.
  4. Maintain an organized and efficient work environment. Serve as a role model for other personnel through commitment and enthusiasm as a team member.
  5. Physical demands: while performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manage, or feel; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to fifty pounds repeatedly and frequently lift or move up to one hundred pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: while performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and may be subject to adverse conditions such as high humidity, high temperatures, high wind, extreme cold, rain, sleet, and snow. The outside work environment will vary throughout the workday including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings and/or rural settings. The employee is occasionally exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
