Job Summary:  

Are you a seasoned mechanic with strong leadership skills and a passion for team development? Join Charge as a Fleet Shop Foreman, where you will oversee shop operations, mentor a team of skilled mechanics, and implement strategies to enhance performance and efficiency.   

The Fleet Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily shop operations, serving as a key liaison between the Operations Manager and the Mechanic team. This position will perform daily repairs and ensure high-quality, timely maintenance of the fleet while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. The Shop Foreman provides technical expertise, supervises the team, and supports the development of shop personnel. 

Duties/Responsibilities:  

Supervision and Workflow Coordination   

  • Lead a team of 4 or more mechanics by setting daily priorities based on work order schedules and operational needs.  
  • Monitor progress on repairs to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards.   
  • Act as the primary point of contact for mechanics needing guidance or troubleshooting assistance.   

Technical Support   

  • Perform advanced diagnostics and assist mechanics in resolving complex repair issues.   
  • Ensure that all completed repairs meet company and regulatory standards.   
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and maintenance practices.   

Shop Operations Management   

  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized shop environment, ensuring tools and equipment are in good working condition.   
  • Coordinate parts requests with the Service Coordinator and/or NAPA parts employee to ensure availability for repairs.  
  • Support the Operations Manager/ Service Coordinator in maintaining accurate records of all repairs and services performed.  
  • Perform QA/QC inspections on all completed work orders to ensure quality work has been performed to company standards.  

Safety and Compliance   

  • Reinforce adherence to safety protocols and best practices during daily shop operations.   
  • Conduct informal safety checks and report any concerns to the Operations Manager.  
  • Support compliance with emissions and equipment operational standards.   

Training and Development  

  • Mentor mechanics to improve skills and technical knowledge.  
  • Provide informal feedback to the Fleet Mechanic staff on team performance and areas for development.   

Administrative Support   

  • Document maintenance and repair activities in fleet management systems.   
  • Assist the Operations Manager in compiling reports on shop productivity and efficiency.   

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in repairing and maintaining heavy duty fleet vehicles and equipment.   
  • Prior experience in overseeing and mentoring a mechanic team.   
  • Strong diagnostic and repair skills for gasoline, diesel, and basic hydraulic systems. 
  • Strong fabrication and welding ability. 
  • Able to provide complete tool set and box. (Outlined in tool policy) 
  • Familiarity with fleet and equipment maintenance software and tools.   
  • Experience with assisting and evaluating repair and maintenance budgets. 
  • Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.   

Education and Experience:  

  • High School Diploma or GED.   
  • Certifications in advanced automotive technologies (e.g., ASE Master Technician).   
  • Background in commercial maintenance, construction, or fleet operations.   
  • Experience implementing strategic plans or continuous improvement initiatives.   

Working Conditions:  

  • Shop environment with exposure to tools, machinery, and various automotive fluids.   
  • Potential for occasional extended hours.
  • Potential for overnight travel.   

Physical requirements: 

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more
  • Frequent standing, bending, and lifting, stooping and kneeling
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a current DOT Medical Card
  • Ability to safely climb up and on trucks and loads
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to properly secure cargo using chains and load binding devices on equipment 

Compensation:  $50.00 -$55.00 per hour

*Compensation hourly, non- exempt, DOE, + bonus potential, + 100% paid full benefits for you and your family, generous paid time off, and an employer funded retirement plan. You must successfully pass a background and drug test prior to the start date
