Here at Utility Services Group, Inc. we provide specialty underground infrastructure investigation, inspection, and rehabilitation.

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving growth across all USG business units and service lines by identifying, developing, and maintaining strong client relationships, especially with municipal and contractor partners. This role will focus on securing new business opportunities, expanding USG’s geographic reach, and opening underdeveloped market sectors.

Essential Functions

Candidates must have the drive and ability to work both independently and coordinate closely with the Management Team and perform the following essential functions:

  • Execute organizational sales strategies to meet or exceed quarterly sales goals.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with municipal agencies, contractors, utilities and vendors.
  • Responsible for gathering Client surveys on USG services, analyzing the results and helping the Management team with addressing any issues that are determined through surveys.
  • Identify, target, and develop new client relationships and markets both locally and regionally.
  • Expand USG’s footprint in existing and emerging market sectors.
  • Conduct market and branding research and competitive analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and threats.
  • Develop and report competitor intel.
  • Lead generation of New Sales opportunities and proposals.
  • Identify, coordinate and participate in trade shows, networking events, and association functions.
  • Coordinate closely with Project Management to define scope, timeline, and client needs.
  • Prepare and deliver proposals, particularly for less complex or recurring service offers.
  • Regularly engage in face-to-face meetings with prospective and current clients.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and partners to maintain and enhance marketing content.
  • Support and manage social media platforms and digital outreach tools.
  • Assist in development and lead implementation of marketing strategy.
  • Uphold and promote all activities in line with USG’s core values and business ethics.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with administrative and team support functions as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of Business Development or Sales experience, preferably in infrastructure or municipal services.
  • Substitution of up to 10 years of direct municipal wastewater sales, operations, or maintenance experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.

Work Environment

This is primarily an outside sales role, requiring substantial travel across regional markets. Regular meetings with the management team (weekly/bi-weekly) will occur. Travel will include daily site visits and occasional overnight stays depending on client location and opportunity development.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, speaking, and use of hands to handle or feel.
  • Regular travel (with overnight stays) requiring the ability to drive and navigate client locations.
  • Must be able to engage in extended periods of in-person meetings and networking.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Extended hours and weekend work required based on client/networking needs.

Travel Requirements

  • Frequent local/regional travel is required – Area of Operation will be Mid-Atlantic Region.
  • Overnight travel will be required occasionally based on project scope and relationship development needs.
