We are currently seeking an experienced Press Operator at our Santa Ana, CA location – 1st or 2nd shift positions, 4 day work week (overtime when needed is scheduled on the 5th day).

JOB SUMMARY: Press Operator sets up and operates the various forging presses, working in constant communication with the Press Loader. This position is responsible for maintaining the production schedule, capturing data from the press, and making sure the press is running safely and fully optimized.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Perform the press set-up including any changes or adjustments to bolts, clamps, and burner assembly at the beginning of each production run.
  • Verify the press is set up correctly and safely at the start of each shift.
  • Check the die and stock temperatures with infrared gun and temperature sticks before running press.
  • Operate the forging press at operating console.
  • Lubricate die surfaces and stock/parts.
  • Clean die with air brush (angle and in-line tool) at times of lube build-up.
  • Inform and instruct Press Loader to assure the production of quality parts.
  • Assist Press Loader with loading and unloading of parts at the press and conveyor oven.
  • Maintain accurate part-counts of current production.
  • Assure quality and production requirements are met, as per job-specific travelers.
  • Maintain focus on tasks throughout a scheduled shift.
  • Report any equipment or facility defect(s) or mechanical dysfunctions to Supervisor.
  • Participate in total quality management projects to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Participate in LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record.
  • Comply with all APP, Inc. safety rules and company policies.
  • Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported.
  • Wear proper Personal Protection Equipment in work area at all time.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.

 

OTHER DUTIES

  • Perform any other duties not mentioned above when instructed to do so by Supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Some High School.
  • 6+ months of forging press loader experience.
  • Aluminum forge press and/or related alloy mechanical press operation experience.
  • 1 year general industrial manufacturing/production experience.
  • Able to understand instructions and safety procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Vocational or Trade School certificate.
  • Experience working in extrusion or forging operation.
  • Proven ability to run a machine with multiple settings or specifications.
  • Aluminum forge presses and/or related alloy mechanical press experience.
  • 1+ years general industrial manufacturing production experience.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. Requires manual dexterity and continued use of both hands, use of hand tools, power tools and related equipment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving forklifts, working plant machinery, overhead machinery and heavy moving part. Work environment is an indoor industrial manufacturing plant working in close proximity to hot presses with open gas burners, ovens, and heated aluminum stock/parts. Temperature in work area can exceed 90F throughout the work year. Sharp aluminum and/or steel filings and shaving can be found in most work areas.  Adequate protective gear is required at all times to avoid injury. Moderate-to-high noise is constant throughout shift.
