Education & Experience

  • Required – High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Required – Associate's degree or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school

Technical Knowledge Requirements

  • Required – Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Required – Lock out / tag out procedures.
  • Required – Analog and Binary function using industry standard terms.
  • Required – Troubleshoot basic controls circuits including starters, safety shutdowns and typical HVAC systems.
  • Required – PID loops and device scaling for typical control applications.
  • Required – Basic refrigeration cycle.
  • Required – Air Handler and Rooftop Unit construction in VAV and constant volume applications.
  • Required – General pumping and fluid system application.
  • Required – Control valve and damper wiring used in commercial HVAC applications.
  • Required – Basic automation system topologies.
  • Required – Communications links and protocols used in Trane control systems.
  • Identify and explain basic application of Trane controllers available to construct an automation system.
  • Required – Use E-Library for troubleshooting support on Trane equipment and controls.
  • Required – Basic Pumping systems including CHW, HW, WSHP Loop, Cooling Tower and Heat Exchanger operation.
  • Required – Basic VAV and Constant Volume ventilation systems and their components.
  • Required – Basic Building pressurization and control.
  • Required – Trane controllers and their applications including service pin and LED functions as applicable.
  • Required – Configure, flash and test all Trane unit level controllers (ZN, etc.)
  • Required – MP-580 applications as stand-alone network manager and as integrated into Tracer Summit Lon network with BCU.
  • Required – Point to point commissioning of sensors and devices used on MP-580 and all other controllers.
  • Required – Rover, managing all files and folders for configuration and program (by others) uploads and downloads.
  • Required – Use Rover to discover communications links including unit discovery.
  • Required – Demonstrate proficiency in reading and troubleshooting TGP programmed by others.
  • Required – Understand and explain communicated variables in Lon applications.
  • Required – Technical knowledge adequate to troubleshoot and test controls circuits for all authorized product lines sold by Damuth Trane (Multistack, Innovent, Nortec, etc.).
  • Required – Tracker and CCP installation, programming and troubleshooting.
  • Required – BCU (Database by others) upload, download and reset (non-networked single BCU application.)
  • Required – Analog and Binary input use in Tracer Summit and unit level including the communication of variables across the network between devices.
  • Required – Schedule, Area, VAS, Trending and event log use. This includes saving reports and trends in all formats available.
  • Required – Functional database management (site configuration, alarm routing, device setup, etc.) and explain importance of site synchronization.
  • Required – Read and understand CPL. Manage CPL files and directories
  • Required – Explain Tracer Summit file organization related to reports, graphics, backups, etc.
  • Required – Develop graphics for Tracer Summit.

Job Description

Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers. Program, commission, diagnose, and repair BAS control systems. Utilize knowledge of electronics, direct digital controls, airflow, hydronics, refrigeration theory and control techniques. Serve as technical resource to operations and sales teams as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

*Other duties may be assigned.

  • Use of a variety of hand tools and instruments for installation of controls systems.
  • Interpret control drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure accurate installation, assembly, testing, and programming of controls systems.
  • Assist all other BAS Project Technicians with tasks as requested.
  • Actively participate in training programs to improve technical knowledge and maintain current technical proficiency as new controllers are introduced.
  • Update as-built drawings for the engineering group as required.
  • Complete assigned work in time prescribed and in accordance with established standards.
  • Consistently execute assigned projects within budgeted time, providing documentation as necessary
  • Execute SPD and warranty repairs completing all required documentation as requested.
  • Maintain assigned stock of inventory, company equipment, and document all related activities.
  • Support the execution of SPD and warranty repairs as requested.
  • Coordinate activities on projects as assigned using appropriate methods and established standards for communication.
  • Document work by completing paperwork on each job and maintaining files as required.
  • Record parts, material, labor, and other cost data per assignment and return unused resources.
  • Regular travel requirements with occasional overnight stays. (2 %)
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as projects require.
  • Responsible for sharing learning gained by attendance in offsite training classes Damuth associates who can benefit from the learning. This should be in presentation format and delivered within two weeks of returning from any training class.
  • Supervise installation of systems by subcontractors, ensuring quality standards are maintained.
  • Mentor and provide technical instruction and assistance to Level 1 BAS Project Technicians.
