Job Summary
Responsible for the management of the Oro Grande Cement Plant and the Crestmore grinding facility.
Responsibilities
- Planning, scheduling of operations to meet objectives with optimum efficiency
- Perform duties supporting various disciplines including process, production/manufacturing, electrical, quality and maintenance/reliability.
- Utilize Key Performance Indicators to set production priorities, lead the daily operations meetings.
- Maintain and protect the plant assets.
- Develop and respect the plant operating and capital budgets.
- Efficient & effective use of resources to maintain a viable & sustainable operation.
- Monitors all expenses incurred during the manufacturing process, and analyzes all variances to plan. Explores all avenues attempting to increase productivity or lower costs. Monitoring extends into the safety of each individual, and the effectiveness of the Plant’s Safety Program.
- Ensures that the facility is managed in a manner that complies with all existing labor laws, works with the Director of Human Resources to promote positive relations with employees.
- Work closely with the Production Manager and staff on establishing and managing a production and shipping schedule for raw materials, clinkers, and cement that will assure product availability to meet the requirements of the ship and inventory plan for the plant.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Manager and staff on developing and implementing maintenance plans to assure that plant mobile and stationary equipment is available for production needs, and the operating time is within acceptable limits.
Safety Obligations
- Oversee and enforce regulatory safety compliance & integrate corporate safety initiatives.
- Facilitate Corporate Safety Programs at the plant.
- Ensure all permit and regulatory requirements are met and maintained.
Environmental Obligations
- Works closely with Environmental Services to ensure compliance at all times.

Leadership and Development of Staff
- Be a positive leader that encourages cross-functional communication and collaboration.
- Ensure proper motivation of staff through coaching, delegation and follow up to suggestions and ideas.
- Implement processes, systems, new technology to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the plant.

Customer Focus
- Work closely with the Sales to promote customer relations and service, reacting quickly to resolve problems or conflicts. Assists by providing plant tours and other promotional activities.
- Proactive in seeking product and service improvement.
- Proactive involvement to solve customer issues and concerns.
Community Involvement
- Oversee a positive community relations effort in support of local organizations, schools, charities, etc. to the mutual benefit of the community and the company. Support employee involvement and leadership in these activities.
- Maintain good relationships with neighbors and the community.
Job Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of cement production process.
- Minimum 5+ years technical and managerial experience in cement production. Experience in Pre-heater, Pre-calciner, dry process cement production strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required, engineering degree preferred. MBA Preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate positive working relationships with all levels of management and staff.

- Strong written/verbal communication, analytical, and computer skills.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English language, communicate positively with employees, customers and vendors at all levels.
- Must be able to see and hear safety indicators and warnings.
- Pass required physical examination and drug screens.
- Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground).
- Climb stairs and ladders as high as 200 feet in elevation.
- Physical ability to climb on equipment to provide supervision during work.
- Drive automobile to various plant sites and work locations. Must be able to travel overnight (air/auto).
- Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs and stockpiles, stoop, crawl under and into enclosed spaces.
- Work indoors in air-conditioned environment and outdoors in all weather conditions - heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process.
- Exposure to noise levels that will require the use of hearing protection.
- Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, coal, coke, and various chemicals, lubricants and solvents. See MSDSs.
