Position Summary
The Underground Utility Pipelayer is responsible for installing, aligning, and maintaining piping systems for water, sewer, storm drainage, and other underground utilities. This role works closely with equipment operators and laborers to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate installations in accordance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards.
Candidates with limited experience may be considered if they demonstrate a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and assist laborers as needed.
- Install underground piping systems including PVC, HDPE, ductile iron, concrete, and steel.
- Set line and grade using lasers, levels, or grade stakes.
- Prepare trenches by grading, bedding, and compacting materials.
- Inspect pipe and materials for defects prior to installation.
- Assist with trench shoring and trench box placement.
- Coordinate with equipment operators for safe placement of materials.
- Backfill and compact trenches to required specifications.
- Follow OSHA trenching and excavation safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in underground utility or heavy civil construction preferred.
- Knowledge of pipe materials, fittings, and installation methods.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and grade stakes.
- Experience working in trenches and around heavy equipment.
- Understanding of slope, grade, and compaction requirements.
- Dependable with strong attendance and punctuality.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work extended hours during the construction season.
- Strong work ethic and ability to multitask.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs without assistance.
- Ability to crawl in and out of structures.
- Ability to climb ladders safely.
- Frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, squatting, sitting, and pushing/pulling heavy objects.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions including heat, sun, water, and cold.
- Comfortable working in dirty and dusty environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in close proximity to heavy equipment.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
