Position Summary: The Safety Manager will work to ensure compliance with all safety and environmental procedures to assist in the achievement of ensuring a safe work environment for all employees within assigned territory.  Identify, eliminate and control hazardous conditions on a project that may lead to injury and/or property damage using job specific safety standards and best management practices. 

Primary Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Assist in implementing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations including, without limitation, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Customer/Site Safety Manual, Company Safety Handbook, MSHA and DOT requirements and all other recognized Safety and Health standards  
  • Lead, manage and hold accountable any site safety managers and site safety specialists within your territory. 
  • Create and foster a positive safety culture  
  • Ensure the compliance with all safety rules and procedures by all employees 
  • Advise appropriate Senior Safety Manager or Safety Director of safety concerns and potential solutions for abatement 
  • Conduct necessary safety training, maintain training records and submit copies to the Safety Admin Assistant 
  • Complete field audits on all projects within your geographical region on a monthly basis at minimum 
  • Communicate and collaborate with appropriate Branch Manager(s) on safety improvements, initiatives, etc. 
  • Provide a summary report to appropriate Branch Manager(s) and Safety Director on a weekly basis, at minimum 
  • Conduct accident investigations, prepare investigation reports and recommend preventive measures to avoid recurrence for use by the Safety Director and Senior Management 
  • Work with medical services personnel to provide and coordinate emergency medical services required for injured employees 
  • Assist as needed in insurance claims handling 
  • Arrange and organize safety promotion activities 
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies such as OSHA and MSHA when necessary and with direction from the Safety Director 
  • Assess new developments in the health and safety field with possible application to company’s operations 
  • Keep apprised of developments in local and state safety laws applicable to covered territory likely to affect the company

  • All other duties as assigned and required 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be able to travel to assigned branches to conduct training, inspect job sites, and/or investigate accidents.  May include overnight visits. 
  • Must have valid driver’s license and have a safe driving record 
  • OSHA instructor certification, CHST or equivalent credential 
  • Strong leadership skills 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public 
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Superior communication skills; written and verbal 
  • Ability to work on a team and build working relationships within all levels of the organization 
  • Ability to perform without supervision 

 Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university 
  • Five to seven years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
