Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This role oversees the Accounts Payable function and is responsible for preparing accurate, timely financial reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Accounts Payable function, including check processing, ACH and wire payments, and training support staff on payables procedures
  • Administer the corporate credit card program and prepare related reports
  • Ensure compliance with state and local sales tax regulations
  • Prepare 1099 tax filings
  • Prepare monthly summaries of checks and ACH payments with detailed descriptions
  • Complete accounting-related reports and analyses for management and government agencies
  • Prepare miscellaneous sales invoices
  • Prepare, enter, and import journal entries and other transactions into the accounting system
  • Monitor intercompany transactions
  • Develop, maintain, and update standard operating procedures
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with internal policies, processes, and internal controls

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate degree in accounting with 3 years’ experience in the accounting field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Functional proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, formulas, and data organization
  • Able to work independently
  • Self-starter with high level of initiative and willing to take on new challenges
  • Time management and prioritization skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail oriented with high degree of accuracy
  • Strong business ethics

Hours

  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 – 4:30.
