Reports to: Commissioning Manager

Summary:

The Data Center Commissioning Technician supports the commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems within mission‑critical data center environments. This entry‑level role assists commissioning agents with planning, testing, documentation, and quality assurance to ensure systems are installed correctly and operate as intended. The position is hands‑on and ideal for candidates looking to build a career in data center engineering, reliability, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:

Commissioning Support

  • Assist in developing commissioning checklists, test scripts, and
  • Support commissioning agents during installation verification, functional testing, and integrated system
  • Help coordinate commissioning tasks with contractors, vendors, and project

Testing & Field Work

  • Participate in equipment testing for HVAC systems, power distribution, UPS units, generators, and monitoring
  • Collect and record test data, equipment readings, and system performance
  • Help identify issues and work with project teams to track and resolve corrective

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare notes, logs, and supporting documentation for commissioning
  • Maintain accurate files of test results, submittals, and project
  • Assist in updating punchlists and verifying the completion of

Quality & Compliance

  • Learn and follow commissioning processes, industry standards, and safety
  • Support QA/QC reviews during equipment installation and system
  • Help ensure that systems meet design intent and owner

Project Support

  • Attend design reviews, construction meetings, and vendor demonstrations as a junior team
  • Assist with training materials and turnover packages for operations
  • Participate in onsite activities, including system walkdowns and

 

Qualifications:

 

Education & Experience

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 0–3 years of experience in data centers, construction, engineering, commissioning, or facility operations
  • Internship or coop experience in MEP systems, controls, or technical environments is a

Skills & Competencies

  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems (coursework acceptable).
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn complex
  • Ability to read technical diagrams or willingness to learn (training provided).
  • Good communication and teamwork
  • Ability to work on active construction sites and follow safety

Certifications (Optional / Nice to Have)

  • FE/EIT, OSHA 10/30, or earlycareer commissioning/MEP certifications are beneficial but not

Physical Demands:

 

  • Ability to continuously sit, stand or
  • Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds

 

Work environment:

 

  • Work is performed on active construction sites and operational data
  • May require lifting equipment, navigating mechanical spaces, and working around highvoltage
  • Must adhere to strict safety protocols and PPE
