Position Summary

Elder Corporation is seeking an experienced Heavy Truck / Equipment Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair our fleet of Class 7 and 8 heavy trucks and trailers, as well as Class 2 light-duty trucks and construction equipment.

This role is essential to minimizing equipment downtime and ensuring our fleet operates safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate has strong diesel diagnostic skills, hands-on experience with heavy equipment, and the ability to work independently in both shop and field environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heavy trucks, trailers, and construction equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, air brake, and fuel systems
  • Repair engines, transmissions, and drivetrain components
  • Maintain and repair heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, and skid steers
  • Perform welding and fabrication as needed
  • Respond to field service calls and emergency repair needs
  • Maintain accurate service records and work orders
  • Ensure all repairs meet company safety policies and DOT standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Participate in program-specific training as provided

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a heavy truck or heavy equipment mechanic
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic systems
  • Experience using diagnostic software and tools
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematics
  • Must provide basic mechanic tools (specialty tools supplied by company)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Dependable with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak construction season
  • Proficiency in maintaining and updating equipment records electronically

Preferred Qualifications

  • Class A CDL
  • Hazmat and Tanker endorsements

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to work in both shop and outdoor environments
  • Comfortable working around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and stand for extended periods
