Internship Overview

Casella Construction is offering a Summer Internship in Fleet & Maintenance — an opportunity to join us in the Spring/Summer of 2026 for our Paid Internship. This internship will focus on honing your practical skills and field experience in fleet operations, maintenance administration, inventory organization and process improvement with a heavy construction environment within the Fleet & Maintenance Team.

Our internship program aligns with your school’s curriculum. Working closely with the Fleet Manager and shop team, you’ll learn firsthand what it takes to start and finish a project and enhance your knowledge of what you learned in the classroom. You'll get hands-on experience learning management functions, parts inventory, improve maintenance documentation, support equipment recordkeeping, and assist with developing standard operating procedures (SOPs). This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in construction management, fleet management, business operations, engineering, or a related field. and tasks such as:

  • Hands-on experience in real fleet and maintenance operations, including exposure to heavy construction equipment and shop workflows
  • Meaningful impact on process improvement, with opportunities to help organize parts inventory, streamline documentation, and improve operational efficiency
  • Close mentorship from experienced fleet and construction professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and industry insights.
  • Skill-building in data, KPIs, and reporting, offering practical analytics experience valuable for careers in operations or construction management.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with organizing and labeling the parts room to improve efficiency and inventory control
  • Identify obsolete, unused, or excess parts and help prepare items for sale or disposal
  • Support inventory tracking and documentation efforts
  • Help organize and audit equipment files and maintenance records within the fleet management software system
  • Assist with cleaning up, standardizing, and updating digital and paper records
  • Support the review and improvement of maintenance continuity documentation
  • Assist in gathering and organizing data for key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fleet and maintenance operations
  • Help update or re-establish KPIs that have not been tracked recently
  • Prepare basic summaries or reports for management review
  • Assist in writing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for administrative and mechanical shop processes
  • Observe shop and fleet workflows to help document best practices
  • Support process improvement initiatives aimed at efficiency, consistency, and compliance
  • Provide administrative and organizational support to the Fleet Manager and shop team
  • Participate in special projects related to fleet operations, maintenance planning, and continuous improvement

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program related to construction management, business administration, engineering, logistics, or a similar field
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with computers, spreadsheets, and digital filing systems
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally
  • Willingness to work in and around a shop environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in fleet management, heavy equipment, or construction operations
  • Familiarity with maintenance software, inventory systems, or KPIs
  • Basic mechanical knowledge or willingness to learn

Physical & Work Environment

  • Combination of office and shop environment
  • May require walking through the shop, parts room, and yard
  • Standard safety requirements apply (PPE provided as needed)

Compensation and Benefits:

Our Spring / Summer 2026 Internships are 8-12 weeks, 40 hours or more per week and generally start in the May / June timeframe (start and end dates are flexible based on your availability).

Hourly Hiring Range: $24.00/hr.
