We are looking to fill a Lineman position in Sioux Falls, SD. An Aerial Lineman needs a good working knowledge of all aspects of telecommunications construction including make-ready drawings, strand placement, and cable placement (both bare strand and overlash). Knowledge of proper utility construction work on telecommunications infrastructure projects is also preferred.

Essential Duties: 

  • Experience with aerial lift devices, utility lines and poles,
  • Ensure accuracy of work orders
  • Ensure work being performed is conducted to Mears’ standards in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ensure that all materials, supplies, tools, and equipment is procured in a time efficient manner
  • Ensure that all machinery and tools are available to the crew, and everything is in proper order and state of maintenance.
  • Ensure that work sites are cleaned and cleared of any hazardous materials prior to the beginning of a construction project.
  • Comply with all DOT regulations.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties assigned

Key Qualifications 

  • Valid Class A CDL required
  • 1+ years aerial line experience in the telecommunications field
  • 1 year construction general labor experience or military equivalent
  • Ability to read and understand make-ready drawings and sheets
  • Ability to read and understand all aspects of cable design
  • Strong knowledge of NESC (GO95 for California) requirements
  • The ability to work safely, with or without supervision
  • The ability to work aloft, either from a ladder or other aerial lift device
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • The physical activity required for this role includes:
    • Standing or walking for long periods with repeated lifting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead
    • Tolerate a range of weather conditions, including hot and cold weather
    • Proximity to energized and de-energized electric lines and moving mechanical parts
    • Occasionally work in confined spaces or on elevated work safe areas of upto 75 feet
    • Frequently pull or push heavy objects, occasionally exerting 100 pounds of force, and frequently exerting 50 pounds of force.
    • Frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
