NOW HIRING: DESIGN-BUILD ELECTRICAL ESTIMATOR
Experienced Industrial & Commercial Electrical Estimating Professionals Wanted!
BUILD YOUR CAREER WITH INTEX ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS, INC.
We're Not Just Offering a Job — We're Offering a Career!
At Intex Electrical Contractors, Inc., we believe successful projects begin with innovative design, technical expertise, accurate estimating, and experienced professionals who know how to turn a concept into reality.
We're seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and technically skilled Design-Build Electrical Estimator to lead the preliminary electrical design and estimating process for large-scale industrial and commercial construction projects.
This is NOT a traditional plan-and-spec estimating position.
Our design-build projects often begin with little more than architectural drawings and an owner's vision. We're looking for someone who can take that information, develop a comprehensive electrical concept, identify system requirements, and produce accurate, competitive estimates.
If you're an experienced electrical estimator who enjoys solving complex challenges, developing innovative solutions, and taking ownership of projects from concept through construction, we want to hear from you!
PAY: Compensation Based on Experience (DOE)
THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Design-Build Electrical Estimator at Intex, you will play a critical role in developing electrical concepts, preliminary designs, budgets, and detailed estimates for large commercial and industrial construction projects.
You will work directly with general contractors, developers, architects, engineers, vendors, and internal project teams to develop cost-effective electrical solutions that meet project requirements, applicable codes, and customer expectations.
We're looking for an experienced professional who can determine what an electrical project needs—even when those systems haven't been designed or drawn yet.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Electrical Design Development & Conceptual Planning
Develop complete electrical scopes from architectural drawings, owner narratives, and preliminary design information.
Prepare conceptual budgets and progressively develop detailed, construction-ready estimates.
Develop interior and exterior lighting layouts for warehouses, manufacturing facilities, offices, loading docks, canopies, parking areas, and site lighting.
Perform photometric calculations to achieve required lighting levels.
Develop lighting control strategies that comply with applicable energy codes, including IECC and ASHRAE 90.1.
Perform electrical load calculations and determine service and distribution requirements.
Size electrical service equipment, switch-gear, switchboards, transformers, panel boards, feeders, and branch circuits.
Coordinate with utility providers regarding available capacity, transformer requirements, service routing, metering, and installation timelines.
Identify electrical systems and components required for a complete installation, even when they are not shown on preliminary drawings.
Clearly document design assumptions, exclusions, and outstanding information.
Design Coordination & Scope Development
Coordinate with owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, and other trades to identify complete electrical requirements.
Evaluate electrical needs associated with HVAC equipment, rooftop units, ventilation systems, plumbing equipment, and water heating.
Identify electrical requirements for fire pumps, jockey pumps, sewage ejectors, compressed air systems, and other mechanical equipment.
Coordinate electrical requirements for dock equipment, overhead doors, conveyors, material handling systems, racking, and production equipment.
Evaluate power requirements for EV charging infrastructure and other specialty systems.
Develop and maintain equipment schedules and connected-load calculations.
Identify missing information and proactively coordinate with project stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues.
Account for site electrical requirements, including underground duct banks, trenching, site lighting, pole bases, signage, gate power, temporary power, and utility infrastructure.
Electrical Codes, Compliance & Life Safety
Apply the National Electrical Code (NEC) to electrical design concepts, calculations, and estimating.
Evaluate requirements for electrical services, grounding and bonding, feeders, branch circuits, motors, transformers, and distribution systems.
Identify applicable emergency, legally required standby, and optional standby power requirements.
Evaluate generator systems, automatic transfer switches, and associated electrical infrastructure.
Recognize requirements for hazardous locations, photovoltaic systems, and energy storage when applicable.
Identify life-safety requirements under applicable building and fire codes, including IBC, NFPA 101, NFPA 72, and NFPA 110.
Account for fire alarm, emergency lighting, exit signage, elevator interfaces, and other required life-safety systems.
Identify smoke control or smoke evacuation requirements and incorporate associated electrical infrastructure, controls, standby power, and system interfaces.
Evaluate lighting and control compliance under IECC and ASHRAE 90.1.
Coordinate applicable state and local code amendments, Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements, and utility standards.
Identify available utility rebates and energy-efficiency opportunities when applicable.
Electrical Estimating & Cost Management
Prepare comprehensive electrical estimates for large-scale commercial and industrial construction projects.
Perform detailed material and equipment takeoffs for electrical distribution, feeders, branch wiring, raceways, devices, lighting, and site electrical systems.
Develop conceptual budgets using square-foot pricing, historical data, and order-of-magnitude estimating methods.
Refine preliminary estimates into detailed Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) or firm design-build proposals.
Solicit, evaluate, negotiate, and compare vendor and subcontractor quotations.
Coordinate pricing for switch-gear, transformers, generators, lighting packages, lighting controls, lightning protection, and specialty electrical systems.
Evaluate material availability, procurement lead times, and potential price escalation.
Apply appropriate labor units based on project complexity, building height, construction methods, working conditions, and scheduling requirements.
Account for labor considerations such as elevated work, compressed schedules, multiple shifts, and prevailing wage requirements when applicable.
Include low-voltage and specialty systems within the assigned scope, including telecommunications, data, security, access control, CCTV, paging, and wireless infrastructure.
Prepare detailed scope letters identifying inclusions, exclusions, clarifications, and assumptions.
Maintain accurate estimating records and contribute to historical cost databases and project benchmarking.
Client Relations & Pre-construction Coordination
Serve as a primary technical contact for general contractors, developers, architects, engineers, and client pre-construction teams.
Lead and participate in estimating reviews, scope meetings, budget discussions, and design coordination meetings.
Proactively identify outstanding design and scope issues and coordinate their resolution.
Clearly communicate electrical design concepts, pricing assumptions, and project costs to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
Present and defend estimates using accurate documentation, sound reasoning, and technical expertise.
Lead value-engineering discussions and recommend code-compliant alternatives.
Explain the financial, scheduling, and operational impacts of proposed design changes.
Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project coordination meetings as required.
Collaborate with Project Managers and field leadership during project turnover.
Assist with purchasing, buyout, scope clarification, and change-order pricing during construction.
Maintain professional relationships with customers, vendors, and project stakeholders.
