Position Overview

Gregory Construction is seeking a dependable, hands-on Small Tool Mechanic to join our team in Columbus, Mississippi.

This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and tracking the construction tools and small equipment used by our field teams. The Small Tool Mechanic will help ensure equipment is safe, operational, organized, and ready to be deployed to Gregory Construction job sites.

In addition to equipment repair and maintenance, this role will assist with small tool inventory management, job site trailer build-outs, equipment organization, and preparation of tools and materials for upcoming projects.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, organized, safety-minded, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain construction tools and small equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections to keep equipment in safe working condition.
  • Repair or service small engines, power tools, pumps, generators, compactors, saws, and other construction-related equipment as needed.
  • Identify equipment that should be repaired, replaced, or removed from service.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of small tools and equipment.
  • Track the issuance, return, condition, and availability of company tools.
  • Prepare tools and equipment for deployment to active construction projects.
  • Assist with job site trailer build-outs, including organizing and equipping trailers with the tools and supplies needed by field teams.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop and storage environment.
  • Help load, unload, organize, and stage tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate with field and operations teams regarding equipment needs, repairs, and availability.
  • Maintain basic maintenance and repair records.
  • Follow all Gregory Construction safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional shop, equipment, and field-support duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience repairing or maintaining construction tools, small engines, equipment, automotive, diesel, or similar mechanical systems preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience with construction tools and equipment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment.
  • Basic understanding of preventative maintenance and equipment repair.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage tools, parts, and inventory.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple repair and equipment needs.
  • Comfortable working in a shop environment and occasionally supporting construction job sites.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, stand, climb, and work in various positions while performing repairs.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding work throughout the workday.
