Summary

Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives is seeking an Accountant who will collaborate cross-functionally across departments to support month-end close processes, maintain general ledger integrity, and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Support Buckeye Power and related companies with general accounting functions.
Prepare various monthly reconciliations.  
Prepare monthly journal entries for PACs and Community Foundation.
Coordinate and ensure data accuracy to prepare financial statements for PACs and Community Foundation.
Responsible for maintaining and updating the policies and procedures as needed.
In collaboration with the department and company needs, provide support with internal operational audits of Cardinal Operating Company, Buckeye Power, Inc. and related companies. 
Prepare schedules, analysis, and answers audit inquiries regarding the annual audit of the companies.  
Work with the Senior Accounting – Billing and software developers on programs that gather data and produce the bill.
Serve as operational backup across key accounting functions, including Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), merchant credit card processing, and petty cash.
Contribute to the preparation of the monthly wholesale power billing to Buckeye’s member cooperative systems, ensure data integrity while working with the Market Operations  Department and various transmission providers. 
Aid the Accounting and Finance information systems by proposing process improvements, upgrades and efficiencies. Provide testing, documentation and support during the accounting software implementation processes. 
Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred. Relevant on-the-job experience or education over and above the requirement described above may be substituted for part of the experience requirement.

Licenses and Certifications

  • None required

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of accounting experience desired.
  • Must have a working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in the use of personal computer applications.
  • Proficient use of computer and standard office equipment.

Abilities & Skills:

  • Must be able to apply accounting principles.
  • Must be able to organize work and set priorities.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and standard enterprise accounting software.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have discretion of confidential data and information. 
  • Highly motivated and action-oriented individuals.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent professional demeanor and attention to detail.

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, and lift objects; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. This position involves sedentary work, which requires sitting most of the time. Must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections and view computer monitors.

 

Work Environment

Occasional work outside normal schedule may be required, if needed.
