Job Summary
NEBCO is looking for high performing, results-oriented interns actively enrolled in Concrete Industry Management Programs to join our team and learn more about the concrete industry. The ideal candidates will be self-motivated, hard worker, and reliable. Interns will be learn and perform tasks in quality control, production, distribution, and related operations for concrete plant facilities. Tasks will be performed under direct supervision of facility or project as assigned to develop and increase knowledge, understanding, and experience of concrete operations. Must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Intern will be assigned to learn and work in one, or more, of the following companies and/or departments:

Ready Mixed Concrete Company: learn about and assists with production, distribution, sales, and operations of Ready Mixed Concrete.

  • Provides general labor support in plant and yard
  • Learns and assists with batching duties,
  • Observes and helps load concrete into trucks, assures tickets match orders,
  • Observes and assists with sales support, dispatch, and service
  • Communicates and interacts with management, other employees, customers, and vendors

Concrete Industries: learn about pre-cast and pre-stressed concrete while assisting detailers, engineers, and office staff.

  • Reads and comprehends architectural/mechanical/electrical/structural drawings, specifications, engineering calculations as necessary.
  • Learns and utilizes knowledge of various computer programs, engineering practices, production practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
  • Documents any project changes or updates as needed.
  • Communicates with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the production of detailed drawings.
  • Assists with coordination of production status between customer and Drafting Engineering/Sales/Production personnel.

Quality Assurance & Control: learn and perform a wide variety of quality assurance and control functions

  • Learns and assists with validation of tests, inspections, production methods and material qualifications.
  • Assists with routine testing on raw materials.
  • Checks and inspects concrete batches as needed for errors and meeting product specifications.
  • Documents data obtained during all QA/QC activities.
  • Communicates with plant personnel and central dispatch

Education and/or Experience: 

  • College student actively enrolled in a Concrete Industry Management or related program.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid Driver’s License.

Other Qualifications: 

  • Must be able to read and understand operations manuals, instructions, safety rules, etc.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Develops and understand good overall technical knowledge of plant operations, safety, training, environmental compliance, equipment, and construction projects.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Other Skills and Abilities:  

  • Must be detail oriented with an ability to coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to operate within a team and support the goals of the project/company.
  • Strong initiative, problem solving abilities.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.  The employee is exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  This is a tobacco free campus.
