The Shipping Area Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all shipping, warehousing, and material flow activities to support safe, efficient, and on-time delivery of products to our customers. This role provides leadership to Shipping Department employees while promoting a positive team culture focused on safety, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
The Shipping Area Supervisor drives performance through Lean Manufacturing principles, the Lean Daily Management System (LDMS), Kata continuous improvement practices, 5S workplace organization, and effective cross-functional collaboration. This position plays a critical role in ensuring customer demands are met through safe material flow, inventory accuracy, and on-time shipment performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and develop employees involved in shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, and material movement.
• Foster a positive, team-oriented culture supporting employee engagement, accountability, customer success, and shared business goals.
• Develop and implement team goals aligned with business priorities and customer requirements.
• Review production schedules and coordinate outbound shipments to meet customer delivery requirements.
• Quote, schedule, and arrange economical transportation methods for inbound and outbound freight.
• Monitor and report On-Time Shipment (OTS), On-Time Delivery (OTD), and On-Time Request (OTR) metrics.
• Manage departmental budgets including freight, warehouse, maintenance, and shipping expenses.
• Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including Lean Daily Management System (LDMS) activities.
• Facilitate Kata continuous improvement practices and problem-solving initiatives.
• Recommend and implement improvements in shipping, receiving, warehousing, and material flow processes.
• Maintain accurate inventory movement and material transactions.
• Ensure compliance with export regulations and prepare all shipping/export documentation.
• Arrange in-plant transfer of materials to support production schedules.
• Coordinate maintenance and repair of material handling equipment.
• Champion a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with EHS requirements.
• Maintain and sustain 5S workplace organization standards.
• Drive safe and efficient flow of materials and people throughout the facility.
• Support and uphold Quality, EHS policies, and Company Core Values.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, development, coaching, performance management, and evaluation of Shipping and Receiving employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, or material management.
Previous leadership experience preferred.
Experience in Lean Manufacturing environments preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, interpret, and communicate safety rules, procedures, reports, correspondence, and technical documents.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate rates, percentages, ratios, freight costs, and operational performance metrics.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical operational problems involving multiple variables and competing priorities.
CERTIFICATIONS
Must successfully complete and maintain Conductix-Wampfler Forklift and Overhead Crane Certifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Regular standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent lifting up to 25 pounds, and occasional lifting up to 100 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to moving equipment, forklift traffic, noise, dust, and material handling activities.
