OBJECTIVE:

Build consumer trust, expand markets and drive demand for soy by strengthening Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) engagement with consumers, food professionals, educators and industry stakeholders through compelling visual storytelling via photography and videography.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Photography & Videography

  • Translate communications objectives and stories into compelling professional-quality visual content that connects with target audiences and supports:
    • Fresh Pickings magazine, published through the Iowa Food & Family Project (Iowa FFP).
    • The Soyfoods Council and food portfolio initiatives, supporting culinary applications, nutrition and consumer audiences.
    • Iowa FFP social media channels and eNewsletter.
    • ISA’s social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, X, Instagram, LinkedIn), specializing in short-form video, reels and digital-first content.
    • The ISA website and additional internal or external print/digital needs as they arise.
  • Provide photography and video coverage for ISA, Iowa FFP and partner events, including conferences, educational programs, consumer events, farm tours and promotional activities.

Creative Development

  • Partner with the Engagement team to develop visual concepts and story ideas for print and digital products, contributing creative input from planning through execution.
  • Develop production plans, timelines and shot lists for photography and video projects, coordinating schedules, locations, subjects, equipment and other logistical needs to ensure efficient execution.
  • Ensure photography, video and other visual content consistently reflects ISA, Iowa FFP and partner brand standards, messaging and visual identity.
  • Stay current on emerging best practices, tools, editing technologies and short-form digital video trends in photography and videography.
  • Assist the team with creating and designing ISA marketing materials and digital content as needed.

Editing, Production & Project Coordination

  • Edit and produce photography and video assets for print, web, social media and other digital platforms, applying creative and editorial judgment to deliver polished, audience-appropriate content, including color correction, retouching, cropping, audio editing, captions, graphics and final formatting.
  • Manage multiple photography and video projects simultaneously, prioritizing assignments based on deadlines, audience needs, organizational priorities and available resources.

Asset Management

  • Maintain an organized, searchable digital asset library, including consistent file naming, metadata, tagging, rights/usage information, backups and archiving, to ensure visual assets are accessible and reusable across the organization.

TRAVEL

  • Regular travel throughout Iowa, including rural and farm settings, with occasional overnight travel
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to lift/transport photography and video equipment (up to 40 lbs.)
  • Some early morning, evening, or weekend work required to accommodate shoot schedules and seasonal farm activities

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position has no supervisory responsibility.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in photography, videography, visual communications, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated portfolio of professional photography and video work, with specific experience in food and culinary photography
  • Proficiency with DSLR/mirrorless cameras, lighting equipment, and video production gear
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro; After Effects a plus)
  • Experience with drone photography/videography preferred; FAA Part 107 certification a plus
  • Familiarity with agriculture, farming or rural Iowa communities preferred
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel across Iowa, including to farms and outdoor field locations
