2027 Summer Internship - Assistant Project Manager
The Assistant Project Manager Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting estimating, preconstruction, and project management activities within APi Construction Company's specialty construction operations. Under the guidance of Project Managers, Estimators, and other project leaders, the intern will assist with reviewing bid documents, completing quantity takeoffs, preparing proposal materials, tracking project progress, supporting procurement and scheduling activities, and maintaining project cost information.
This internship is designed for students pursuing a career in construction management or a related field who seek meaningful exposure to the day-to-day operations of a specialty contractor. Interns will have opportunities to learn from both office and field teams, build technical and business skills, and explore a potential long-term career with APi Construction Company.
Internship Details:
- Location: Office-based at APi Inc’s New Brighton, Minnesota office
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Internship Term: Summer internship, typically late May through August
Responsibilities:
- Assist with reviewing and interpreting request for quotation documents, specifications, drawings, scope descriptions, and contract requirements.
- Assist with quantitative takeoffs for flatwork, siding, scaffolding, and piping projects using bid drawings and estimating tools.
- Enter takeoff quantities into estimating tools and spreadsheets to support project pricing and proposal documents.
- Assist Project Managers, Estimators, and Business Development teams with preparing proposal documents and supporting materials.
- Assist with preparing project cost analysis reports and other documentation for recordkeeping and management review.
- Support the development and updating of project schedules.
- Support the preparation of progress billings and related customer documentation as directed by the Project Manager.
- Participate in evaluation of completed jobs and compile accurate cost histories.

Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Construction Management or related field
- Strong Microsoft Excel and computer skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of construction estimating software
- Previous internship or project experience in construction or engineering
- Coursework in project management, business, or engineering
- Demonstrated leadership or involvement in student organizations or group projects
Travel Requirements:
- Travel to project sites or other APi Inc company locations as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Primarily a stationary position for a considerable portion of the day (sitting and/or standing). Must move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer. Must be able to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in plant environment.
- PPE required in plant, yard, or construction areas includes: Hard Hat, Safety Glasses/Goggles, Steel-toed Boots, High Visibility Vest, Hearing Protection (designated areas), and Gloves.
