Position Overview

The Scheduler is responsible for developing, updating, and monitoring Critical Path Method (CPM) project schedules in Primavera P6 across P&E’s industrial mechanical and electrical construction projects. This role supports project execution by maintaining project schedules, incorporating field progress and subcontractor input, monitoring critical path activities, and identifying potential schedule impacts.

The Scheduler works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators, and Project Controls to translate project scope, construction sequencing, and field execution plans into practical schedules that support project milestones and completion objectives. The role maintains schedules in accordance with P&E standards, prepares routine schedule reports and look-ahead plans, and communicates schedule variances and potential risks to the project team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain CPM project schedules in Primavera P6 using P&E’s approved corporate templates, work breakdown structure, activity coding, and scheduling standards.

  • Support baseline schedule development by incorporating project scope, contract milestones, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.

  • Maintain project logic and sequencing to accurately reflect construction means and methods, activity relationships, and planned completion dates.

  • Monitor the project critical path, total float, and near-critical activities to identify potential delays and communicate schedule risks to the Project Manager and Superintendent.

  • Perform routine schedule updates using actual start and finish dates, field progress, and realistic estimates of remaining activity durations.

  • Coordinate with field supervision to collect progress information, validate activity status, and incorporate changes in construction sequencing and execution plans.

  • Prepare and distribute standard schedule reports, including the three-week field execution look-ahead, six-week subcontractor labor look-ahead, and other project-specific reporting required by the project team.

  • Assist with resource and manhour loading, manpower projections, and planned-versus-actual progress reporting to support workforce planning and schedule performance monitoring.

  • Track schedule variances against the approved baseline, identify activities falling behind plan, and communicate emerging issues to the project team.

  • Assist with recovery schedule development by evaluating sequencing alternatives, reviewing remaining durations, and incorporating agreed-upon corrective actions into the schedule.

  • Incorporate approved scope changes, revised work plans, subcontractor schedules, and vendor milestones into the project schedule.

  • Coordinate with procurement and project personnel to monitor long-lead equipment, materials, and delivery milestones that may affect construction activities.

  • Prepare schedule narratives and progress summaries documenting current status, milestone forecasts, schedule changes, and key risks.

  • Assist with time-impact analyses and schedule impact assessments for project changes, delays, and change-order documentation as directed by project leadership.

  • Verify schedule quality and compliance with P&E scheduling standards, including activity logic, constraints, progress status, and baseline maintenance requirements.

  • Maintain schedule files, baseline records, and revision snapshots in accordance with Company document-control and revision-management procedures.

  • Coordinate with Estimating and Project Controls to align scheduled work and budgeted manhours with project cost and progress reporting.

  • Participate in schedule review meetings with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and clients as required.

  • Support project close-out by assisting with final schedule updates, as-built schedule documentation, and lessons learned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 4+ years of construction industry experience, preferably in industrial mechanical, electrical, or heavy industrial construction.

  • 2+ years of project scheduling experience using Primavera P6, preferably on industrial construction or capital projects.

  • Experience developing and updating construction schedules, tracking progress against baselines, and preparing schedule reports.

  • Familiarity with construction sequencing, field execution planning, and coordination among project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and procurement.

  • Experience with resource or manhour loading, manpower forecasting, and schedule progress curves preferred.

  • Exposure to schedule recovery planning, time-impact analyses, or change-order schedule support preferred.

  • Working proficiency in Primavera P6, including schedule development, activity relationships, baseline maintenance, progress updates, and schedule reporting.

  • Working knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, critical path identification, total float, and schedule variance analysis.

  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, project milestones, and contractual scheduling requirements.

  • Understanding of industrial construction activities, work sequencing, and the relationship between engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for schedule analysis, progress tracking, and reporting.

  • Ability to review field progress, evaluate remaining durations, and identify potential schedule risks or inconsistencies.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage recurring schedule updates and meet project reporting deadlines.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain schedule status, variances, and upcoming priorities to project teams.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to maintain accurate and actionable schedules.

  • Familiarity with ERP or project cost-management systems; experience with COINS preferred.

  • Ability to adapt to changing project conditions, incorporate updated information, and support proactive schedule management.
