Job Description

The Energy Engineering positions will work closely with the sales team, project management team, and clients and partners to design, manage and develop building energy improvements to reduce energy costs.  The technologies include all facets of energy reduction, including lighting, HVAC, EMS controls, lighting controls, renewables, compressed air and other energy solutions.

An energy-related degree or industry experience is required. A minimum of 5+ years of technical engineering, design, ESCO, and/or consulting experience in energy analysis, performance contracts, or energy efficiency projects is required.  Experience is required with efficiency improvements or audits of building utility infrastructure systems including but not limited to mechanical system plants, lighting, distribution plants, motors and automated controls.

This position may require various skills, and pitching in with other departments to perform whatever tasks are necessary to deliver profitable, quality solutions to clients.

Additional LEED and or energy modeling experience are a plus. Those who hold or are in pursuit of a Professional Engineer (PE) registration, LC and/or a CEM is desirable.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Determine customers’ technical requirements, identify and evaluate energy efficiency cost savings opportunities;

  • Manage engineering resources and commitments.
  • Set and review priorities and efficiency targets with clients, inside AEC engineering and auditing.
  • Train, mentor, direct PM or Engineering team as needed.
  • Manage personnel who are direct reports, and assist in team mentorship across the company.
  • Audit, and direct audits of client facilities and presentations.
  • Gather key project details such as utility data, facility profiles, site drawings, system operating characteristics.
  • Visit project sites to assess and document building, mechanical, electrical, controls, and plumbing systems.
  • Investigate, analyze, and document energy conservation and water cost reduction measures.
  • Audit Sites as required, and set auditing requirements and needs.
  • Conduct detailed engineering analysis including baseline profiles, end-use analysis, and retro fit analysis.
  • Prepare and present technical content, proposals, analysis, and feasibility reports.
  • Participate in peer review for engineering analysis and project costing.
  • Provide critical review of proposals and reports through technical narrative editing.
  • Various facets of energy auditing, energy calculations, and generating detailed energy reports regarding savings opportunities.
  • Create benefit/cost analysis based on engineering fundamentals.
  • Calculate and estimate various incentives for clients to implement energy reduction projects.
  • Be able to draft client proposal as byproduct of benefit/cost analysis.
  • Be able to draft technical review and analysis as it relates to benefit and cost analysis.
  • Taking initiative to understand and learn about existing and new energy saving technologies, and calculate and analyze the energy savings they create.
  • Understanding of utility rates and programs, and able to calculate energy usage.
  • Calculate energy rebates and negotiate for clients to achieve best incentives to allow projects to move forward, working with sales and development team. 
  • Life-cycle cost analysis.
  • Energy management technologies.
  • Buildings system optimization.
  • Provide sales team with technical assistance and guidance.
  • Perform other duties as required to generate savings opportunities for client.

Required Skills or Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in related or similar work.
  • Successfully obtained a College Degree, or higher.
  • Work preference for a fast-paced customer-centered work environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines.
  • Energy Auditing experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills is required.
  • Knowledgeable in NEC.
  • Dependable, team-oriented, responsible and professional.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including night shifts.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable means of transportation, clean driving record.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office and project management software. (Excel, Word, Project).
  • Commitment to learning and participating in training and educational programs

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSME or BSEE
  • Other energy or building space certifications
  • Supervisory experience for the management position.
  • Prior experience with energy rates or calculations.
