The Job
DMOS is seeking several Full-Time Physician Assistants to work with one Hand and Upper Extremity or Hips and Knees. You will provide medical care in our clinic independently without Physician supervision: We have both surgical and non-surgical positions located in West Des Moines and Ankeny office. You will be responsible for patient consultation, evaluation and care, writing progress notes, and dictating office notes. You must be able to work a flexible schedule. Successful candidate should be NCCPA-certified/eligible. Previous orthopaedic experience preferred but will train the right candidate. Have a positive can-do attitude and a love for your job? You Will:
- Provide comprehensive healthcare services to patients of all ages.
- Promote and maintain health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician.
- Prepare patients for surgery and assist as a first or second assistant in OR cases.
- Managing transfers of patients from OR to ICU.
- Develop post-op care plans and preparing patients and families for patient discharge.
- Perform pre-op care including diagnosing patient condition and prescribing care including surgery.
- Preparing patients for surgery and assisting as a first or second assistant in OR cases. Review old patient records that may be pertinent to patients’ current condition.
- Perform and document physical examinations including screening examinations.
- Document normal and abnormal findings on histories, physical examinations and commonly performed diagnostic studies.
- Document prognosis, along with short and long-term goals.
- Exercise prescriptive authority to prescribe according to federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Meet competency based standards of practice according to certification and facility policy and procedures, code of conducts and board requirements. The PA will discuss cases with the supervising physician and other health care professionals as needed to prepare patient care plans.
- Review assessment and plan of care and collaborate with physician in accordance with the federal, state, local laws and regulations.
- Patient referrals to the physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment will be made appropriately.
Requirements/Regulatory Requirements
- Completion of and certification in an accredited Physician Assistant program for PA in the State of Iowa Licensed as a Physician’s Assistant
- Current NCCPA certification for Physician Assistant
- Current BLS certification
