Overview:

The PANTHERx Specialty Pharmacy Fellowship Program offers a unique and distinctive opportunity to interface with patients, healthcare providers, health plans and manufacturers to effectively optimize patient outcomes.  Completion of this program will result in a highly knowledgeable pharmacist competent in both clinical and business aspects of specialty pharmacy management.  The fellow will have opportunities to work in the areas of:

  • Business & Pharmacy Operations
  • Quality Improvement & Clinical Education
  • Pharmacy Analytics & Reporting
  • Business Development, Strategic Partnerships, & Managed Markets

Fellowship Goals: 

  • Perform focused, evidence-based comprehensive disease and medication therapy management services for patients with specialty disease states including hypophosphatasia, HIV, transplant, hepatitis c, oncology, and inflammatory/neurologic conditions

  • Interact with prescribers, patients and partners to optimize the unique and complex care of specialty patients

  • Analyze, develop, and implement quality improvement initiatives including pharmacovigilance to further enhance medication safety

  • Participate in the development and analysis of clinical initiatives focused on enhancing patient therapeutic outcomes

  • Develop skills required for medication pipeline analysis, management and market forecasting

  • Understand specialty medication supply chain, inventory management and the impact on pharmacy operations

  • Participate in quarterly business reviews and interface with industry partners and managed care organizations
  • Gain an understanding of accreditation and regulatory standards, compliance, reporting and auditing
  • Develop clinical resources to support professional development of internal colleagues
  • Provide clinical and drug information support to healthcare providers, and patients
  • Coordinate and complete a focused research project and submit a manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal
  • Cultivate leadership, analytical and communication skills

  • Participate in a structured mentorship program with senior leadership team members
  • Collaboration with multiple schools of pharmacy to offer professional development programs and teaching opportunities
  • Opportunity for PANTHERx partnership with the University of Pittsburgh Master of Science in Pharmacy Business Administration (MSPBA) program

Program Requirements: 

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
  • Currently licensed or eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania

  • Selected applicants will be asked to complete an on-site interview and a 30-minute presentation on a specialty pharmacy topic of their choosing
