Job Title: Asphalt Lab Supervisor
Position Type: Full time seasonal position
Reports to: Vice President, General Manager
Salary: $40,000 - $60,000 (negotiable based on experience)
Qualifications:
- Iowa DOT Asphalt certification preferred
- Ability to receive, understand, and communicate specific instructions
- Experience supervising others and delegating responsibilities
- Ability to adapt to change quickly
- Ability to work with and maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Organizational ability with a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to adhere to and enforce personal protective equipment (PPE) policy
- Possession of a driver’s license with insurable driving record
- Ability to work days or nights and overtime
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen; subject to future random drug testing
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise employees in the asphalt laboratory
- Train new laboratory technicians
- Read and understand specifications and applicable test methods
- Sample, test, and inspect asphalt mixes and aggregates
- Oversee and operate asphalt testing machinery and accurately report test findings and observations
- Responsible for proper use and care of lab instruments
- Test(s) to be performed in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and other test methods and project specifications
- Perform calculations and data reduction of test results
- Interpret asphalt mix designs
- Interact and communicate daily with contractors, technicians, project managers, and owner representatives
Problem Solving
- The individual must be able to multitask effectively and meet specific deadlines
- After performing necessary tests, the individual would be required to compare the data to established criteria and determine suitability of material under study
Knowledge
- Iowa DOT Asphalt certification preferred
- Knowledge of asphalt industry a plus
- Intermediate computer skills including MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel
- Hands-on skills in safely conducting laboratory experiments
- Basic mathematical computation
- Good attention to detail and quality of work
- Ability to summarize data and write reports
