Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Inc. (HACAP) is a diverse, community-focused nonprofit dedicated to empowering and improving the lives of families living with the everyday barriers of poverty.

 

POSITION GOAL

The Substitute Teacher supports the Teacher in planning, implementing and maintaining a nurturing and supportive educational program for children. These positions are intermittent and may be short or long term roles.

 

Hours and Wage:

Intermittent hours; $10.50/hour

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Take direction and work cooperatively with center/classroom staff to assist with center operations and compliance.
  2. Assist in compliance required for HACAP programs, child-care licensing regulations, CACFP, Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act and funding requirements.
  3. Assist and follow site procedures for maintenance of a safe, positive and nurturing physical and emotional environment in the center and classroom.
  4. Assist in carrying out daily lesson plans in keeping with HACAP program requirements and Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act, CLASS dimensions, developmentally appropriate practices, component plans, promote children's interests, individual goals, and strategies.
  5. Follow daily plans and classroom routine.
  6. Follow program, center and classroom procedures for health and safety.
  7. Inform the center staff and Site Supervisor of center issues, which may affect program or agency compliance or image.
  8. Clean classroom, kitchen, bathrooms, changing areas, entryway area utilized by children and their families and the outdoor play area before, during and after class as needed. Follow established maintenance requirements of Head Start/Early Head Start Site.
  9. Assist in any or all other classroom duties as required by program, funding and CACFP regulations as needed.

Education and/or Experience

 

High School diploma or a GED

And

Three months of experience working in a licensed early childhood or school-based pre-school setting

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

  1. Receive clearance by the Iowa Department of Human Services on child abuse and criminal checks prior to hire and resubmit every two (2) years.
  2. Receive clearance thru National FBI fingerprint checks.  Fingerprints must be submitted for national check no later than 30 days from date of hire or start date at the center.  Resubmit every four (4) years.
  3. Pass a pre-employment health examination and subsequent health examinations every two (2) years thereafter.
  4. Provide TB screening clearance upon hire and every two (2) years thereafter.
  5. Complete Bloodborne Pathogen (Universal Precautions) within ten (10) days of employment and update annually.
  6. Complete Child Abuse Mandatory Reporting Training within three (3) months of employment and update every two (2) years.
  7. Complete CCDBG Essentials training within ninety (90) days of employment and update every five (5) years.
  1. Valid driver’s license.
