Job Objectives: This job requires maintenance and repair of mobile equipment and crushing/screening equipment and various on and off-road vehicles at various hours as required to meet the needs of operations. All mechanics are responsible to maintain a clean and safe working environment. This job is primarily performed outdoors in all weather conditions and at night on occasion.
Essential Job Functions:
- Remove and replace parts on heavy machinery, tractors, and crushing/screening plants.
- Troubleshoot and repair trouble areas on heavy machinery, tractors, and crushing/screening plants.
- Climb on and off trucks and equipment
- Work in awkward positions for prolong periods of time
- Reach overhead for prolong periods of time while manipulating objects
- Grip, pinch and manipulate objects of various dimensions and weights with one or both hands
- Maintain clean and safe working area
- Operate all equipment used to repair machines

- Standing: Continuous. Requires the ability to stand on hard, flat surfaces for long hours while working with hands. May be required to work at construction sites and mountainous terrain.
- Walking: continuous. Requires the ability to walk on hard, flat surfaces for long hours. May be required to work at construction sites and mountainous terrain in slippery conditions.
- Lifting/Carrying: Continuous. This position is classified as "Heavy Work". This requires the ability to "exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly" to move objects. Workers will primarily be using their hands to lift from ground to above shoulder level. Objects will vary in size and weight, usually weighing less than 25 pounds, utilizing one or two arm carries less than 10'. Items weighing more than 75 pounds are lifted with assertive devices.
- Climbing: Frequent. Requires the ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment up to 5 steps, 3" width, 25" apart. Requires the ability to climb on and in heavy equipment in awkward positions.
- Squatting: Requires ability to squat for up to 30 seconds in awkward positions while holding tools with hands.
- Supine position: Requires the ability to lie in supine position and work with hands overhead for up to 1 minute.
- Push/Pull: Frequent. Requires the ability to push and pull objects and tools of all sizes; exerting up to 100 pounds of force.
- Balance: Occasional. Requires the ability to balance self with both extremities while climbing on heavy equipment or while working in awkward positions, usually while holding or carrying tools.
- Reaching: Continuous. Requires the ability to utilize a sustained reaching motion in all planes while working on equipment.
- Grasping/Handling: Continuous. Requires the ability for gross grasp of at least 50 pounds of force, sustained less than 5 seconds on tool handles. Requires gross grasp for various size, shape and weight objects.
- Dexterity: continuous. Requires the ability for fine motor dexterity to manipulate tools and small objects in all directions.
- Vision: Continuous. Requires the ability for environmental awareness at work site.
- Sensation: Occasional. Requires the ability to demonstrate protective sensation (the ability to determine by touch if something is hot or painful) and manipulate objects in the hand with vision occluded (i.e. without vision).
- Endurance: Excellent. Requires the ability to tolerate up to 10-14 hour days; 7 days a week.
