Job Title: Major Gifts Officer (MGO)

Location: Milwaukee, WI 

The Milwaukee Rep is seeking an experienced, outgoing, and organized Major Gifts Officer (MGO) to support the strategic development and implementation of our Major and Planned Giving Program.  Working closely with the Chief Development Officer, the Major Gifts Officer will coordinate donor cultivation strategies and major gift solicitations.   Additionally, the MGO will be responsible for research and development of a major gift pipeline focused on the Capital Campaign and Annual Fund.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development of major gift prospects by identifying existing donors and patrons to funnel new major gift prospects for The Rep annually and for the Capital Campaign specifically
  • Research major gift prospects
  • Manage a planned giving program that solicits planned gifts and stewards such donors on an ongoing basis
  • Oversee ongoing wealth screening and implementation; work with Development Database Manager to maximize use of Tessitura’s ability to track and monitor solicitations and stewardship
  • Secure gifts by developing and managing a portfolio of 75-100 new major donors and prospects
  • Collaborate with Chief Development Officer and Director of Development to maximize giving and avoid solicitation overlap
  • Complete and track tasks as required by the comprehensive Moves Management program
  • Spend 50-75% of time cultivating, asking, and stewarding major donors
  • Develop procedures with Development staff that moves prospects along the continuum toward major gifts
  • Work with the Chief Development Officer to develop and oversee volunteer cultivation and solicitation activities 

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree and five years of professional experience with some combination of annual fundraising, planned giving and solicitation of major gifts; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  2. Knowledge of fundraising systems and experience in prospect identification preferred
  3. Working knowledge of donor tracking software, knowledge of Tessitura preferred
  4. Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles
  5. Ability to establish rapport with high level donors and trustees
  6. Superior interpersonal and organization skills are essential
  7. Excellent written and oral communication skills, in order to respond effectively and diplomatically with donors, volunteers, and industry leaders.
  8. Capacity to manage and organize confidential information and to exercise discretion and sound judgement
  9. Ability to pass a background check in accordance with state and/or Federal laws
