Job Description
We have a need for a Geotechnical Engineer that has experience with geotechnical engineering design –specifically, an excellent foundation in soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, and structural engineering concepts, and experience in excavation support design and earth retaining systems. The selected candidate needs to be able to perform the design of complex geotechnical engineering solutions and the associated field engineering work during construction.
Under the direction of highly experienced engineers in various geotechnical fields, this individual will support design efforts that include preparation of design documents for deep foundations; excavations support systems; ground improvement; dewatering, and instrumentation. Experience in the Philadelphia, New York City, or Washington D.C. area is needed.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
The desired civil design skills include: excavation support design, ground improvement design, instrumentation design and interpretation, technical specification development, and construction observation/management. Other responsibilities include performing or preparing:
•Geotechnical field investigations
•Grouting oversight and design
•Geotechnical in-situ testing
•Coordination of lab tests
•Environmental site characterizations
•Engineering analysis and calculations
•Technical memos, reports, construction specifications
•Field observation of construction activities
•Design drawings using AutoCad
Minimum Qualifications
•BS in Civil Engineering, or similar, is required, or equivalent experience
•MS in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering is preferred
•10+ years of experience is preferred
•Experience with geotechnical engineering design –specifically, an excellent formation in soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, and structural engineering concepts
•Experience in excavation support design and earth retaining systems
•Experience with code and design requirements in Philadelphia, New York, or Washington D.C.
•Excellent writing and general communication skills
•CAD skills and drawing ability are a must; GIS and modeling experience is a plus
•40-hr OSHA HAZWOPER training is a plus
•Ability to travel for meetings and short-term field assignments
