The Fire Protection Design Lead is responsible for planning and directing the accomplishment of Design Department objectives, as well as performs a wide variety of duties required to maintain the efficient, day to day operations of the Design Department within the Atlanta (Austell) office.  The Fire Protection Design Lead should be a self-starter possessing time management, scheduling, staff management, Leadership skills, continual learner, and have the required experience.

FIRE PROTECTION DESIGN LEAD ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and Support a group of fire protection designers
  • Review and sign off on design work prior to submittals
  • Work with other leaders to establish best practices and procedures to improve field support and productivity
  • Review construction contract documents and coordinate with sub-contractors and General Contractor/owner to gather the required information to manage a project effectively
  • Through use of analytical thinking and problem solving, determine construction feasibility and systems possibilities
  • Working knowledge of fire protection design to include code knowledge, hydraulic calculations, system components, types and uses of systems, etc.
  • Develop initial schedules for preliminary project work
  • Maintain historical records for future use
  • Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure company is meeting customers' expectations
  • Coordinate with other departments within office to ensure proper handover of job information
  • Conduct long range design planning and scheduling
  • Track design hours each project to evaluate budget vs actual hours
  • Ensure proper staffing is in place on each project
  • Identify changes in projects that impact cost, schedule, or labor requirements
  • Continually monitor progress of projects. Collaborate with Project Leaders and Superintendents
  • Ensure work complies with codes and permits
