We are currently looking for an Sheet Metal Superintendent to join our team.  The Superintendent has overall responsibility for effective and efficient project mobilization through all aspects of the project onsite, including scheduling manpower to meet job related goals and deadlines. Company representative and on-site liaison with customer, as well as multitrade agents, as projects dictate. Requires attention to detail, document control and thorough understanding of project schedules and labor forecasting. Has advanced knowledge of required codes and standards, as well as proper tool and equipment needs. The position requires a technical aptitude and an attention to detail with a primary focus project timelines and budgets.  Experience in manufacturing specific to pulp, paper, wood products, dust collection, industrial HVAC, or Air Heaters is required. Position requires extensive travel, both regional and national, based on project locations.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily oversight of multitrade personnel for a variety of projects in support of Jamar operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensures all safely
  • Develops and maintain relationships with crew members. Ensures crews have needed tools, equipment, etc. in safe working condition
  • Effectively communicates objectives and goals to workers; keeps in close communication with appropriate Project Manager related to change orders, schedule issues/changes, etc.
  • Proactively addresses issues and resolves them. Motivates staff and removes obstacles to ensure project success
  • Manages and schedules field staff to efficiently meet deadlines and completion of projects within or under budgeted hours.
  • Pricing, estimating and takeoffs.
  • Manages the quality of work performed in the field; delivers appropriate follow and recommendations to Project Manager for training as necessary.
  • Develops and maintain relationships with existing and new customers.
  • Actively participate in programs, policies and initiatives designed to enhance the overall good of the company and parent corporation. Activities will include management level strategic planning and an overall willingness to share any and all ideas.

Related Responsibilities

  • Maintains proper safety development and training for craftspeople.
  • Ensures all required licenses and certifications are in place and up to date
  • Have an understanding of multitrade / union function and workings.
  • Ensures all field personnel are trained / certified on equipment they will be operating.

Education / Experience:

  • Three years’ experience in field operations, including multitrade support, and leadership responsibilities in manufacturing setting specific to pulp, paper, wood products, power and utility, dust collection, industrial HVAC, or air systems.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and collaborate effectively with others
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with an aptitude for dealing with various personalities and key stake holders.
  • Ability to provide clear direction to employees.
  • Ability to travel based on project work/location (up to 80-90% of the time)
  • Microsoft Office software proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook) and typing skills.

  • The environmental conditions for this position include climate controlled indoor activity to inclement outdoor extremes of cold, heat, dust, wind and various forms of precipitation. Exposure to a variety of noise and equipment vibration.
  • Position is often in a heavy manufacturing/industrial area and may require up to 75% time on the shop floor.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in plant environment. PPE required when in the plant, yard or construction areas include:
    • Hard Hat
    • Safety Glasses / Goggles
    • Steel-toed Boots
    • Reflective Vest
    • Hearing Protection (designated areas)
