Special-Lite manufactures engineered architectural products, which includes commercial entrance systems, interior aluminum (Type II) framing with swing or sliding aluminum framed doors, and FRP restroom partitions. Our interior and exterior complete entrance system products are fiberglass or aluminum flush doors with many door face texture options including wood grain, aluminum monumental (stile & rail) doors, fiberglass and aluminum framing. Our engineered, made to order architectural products are used in new construction and renovation projects for educational, commercial, institutional, industrial and municipal applications. The company was founded in 1971 and pioneered the use of fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) material for door skins in the early 1980's, and today is the largest volume producer of commercial FRP doors in the United States

Position Summary: Assemble the outside fiberglass perimeter of a door. Sand constructed perimeter down. Fill door perimeter with appropriate core material and reinforcements. Run assembly and corresponding outer fiberglass sheets through flame treater.  Prepare lamination line for door assembly, staging assembled cores and outer fiberglass sheets for construction. Run material through lamination line to construct basic AF Series door slab. Load and package door slabs onto skids for shipment to finishing plant. Additional duties in other areas of interior products production line as time and needs allow.

Essential Functions:

  • Review shop sheet to confirm door or frame specifications.
  • Obtain all the necessary materials, as identified on the cut list.
  • Cut material according to the Master Cut List, in preparation for assembly.
  • Place the door core into the panel saw and cut to job specifications.
  • Run door perimeter through sander.
  • Run door components through flame treater and lamination line.
  • Remove the finished door slab from the press, skid doors for shipment.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures and work in a manner so as not to create a health and safety hazard to oneself and coworkers.
  • Must be able to pick up 100 Ibs with help.
  • Will be rotated to other positions within and outside of home department to meet production needs.

Equipment Operated:

  • Fork lift, Chop saw, hand tools, air ratchet, lift table, measuring tape, panel saw, air sander, glue spreader and lamination equipment.

Job Specifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety; including safe lifting procedures.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.  
  • Ability to measure and perform basic mathematical computations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate equipment, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Frequently required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and twist.
  • Occasionally required to lift, push, pull and/or move up to approximately 140 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Occasionally subject to loud noise and at times noise level may require the employee to shout to be heard above ambient noise level.

Work Environment:

  • Safety glasses and steel toe shoes are required on the production floor at all times.
  • Employees are required to wear hearing protection in designated areas.
  • Frequently subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and electrical current.
  • Occasionally exposed to cold, hot, wet and/or humid shop conditions.
