Controller

South Dakota Innovation Partners is seeking a full time Controller. Innovation Partners is an early-stage venture capital firm focused on research commercialization in the areas of agriculture and engineered technologies and life sciences.  Our vision is to build new businesses that use research to solve global challenges and benefit the regional economy.  We will accomplish our vision by building a world-class due diligence and business development environment for commercializing research.

This position will work not only with South Dakota Innovation Partners but will also work with Prairie Aqua Tech and Medgene Labs located in Sioux Falls and Brookings, SD.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all transactions are processed timely, according to GAAP
  • Perform accurate and timely analysis of monthly financial statements
  • Daily cash management, including weekly forecasting and periodic bank reconciliations
  • Maintain chart of accounts, controls and an orderly filing system
  • Financial management of grants and contracts
  • Responsible for multiple cost accounting techniques
  • Track and maintain accurate inventory records and direct periodic inventory cycle counts
  • Manage external service providers relationships, as required
  • Research and resolve complex accounting issues
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Provide variance analyses; and general operating support, as required

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 3-5 years of related experience is required
  • CPA preferred
  • 2-3 years of public accounting is preferred
  • Some travel required
