Job Summary:

The CAD Lead will be an internal resource and coordinator for CAD best practices and standards. Will assist in maintaining the internal database and accuracy of documents produced.  Will maintain and revise the CAD standards and internal documentation through quarterly revision cycles, as well as oversee other CAD technicians as directed. The CAD Lead must have a strong interest in technology, and be willing to continue to develop both technically and individually, through company supported training/initiatives. Performs activities related to supporting engineers and the project managers in the creation and revision of CAD models and/or detailed drawings. This role will utilize Revit, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Autodesk CAD to produce designs for construction projects.

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Minimum three years of professional experience in mechanical design or equivalent scope of work, including proficiency with CAD programs, including Revit. 
  • Experience in HVAC and Mechanical Construction field preferred 
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret mechanical plans, plus be familiar with architectural, structural, electrical plans / specifications and local code.
  • Thorough understanding of BIM, AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, Blue Beam and Revit.
  • Ability to work fulltime in the Duluth, MN office (not a remote/offsite position).

Essential Job Functions:

  • Be a solutions oriented leader in all aspects of CAD/BIM/3D experiences.
  • Define and maintain CAD standards for the company including CAD libraries.
  • Coordinate weekly CAD needs with Project Managers / Engineers / CAD staff and assignments
  • Provide engineers and project managers schedule projections.
  • Manage CAD & Bluebeam software licenses, updates, and training.
  • Manage Autodesk users and life cycle processes.
  • Coordination with contractors during pre-construction phase.
  • Design/coordinate pre fabrication and spool drawings directly with field operations, welders, design engineer, and subcontractors
  • Guide, support and advise related to QA/QC of CAD worked performed
  • Collaborate with engineering in preparing AutoCAD and Revit drawing packages
  • Utilizing pre-engineering documentation, generate elevation and plan views, in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Revise drawings based on engineering and client feedback. Update drawings to include redline changes to complete as-built drawings.
  • Attend design workshops and drawing review sessions with engineers and project managers and document design changes.
  • Maintain proper file version control.
  • Provide daily status updates and end of day document packages to engineering as requested. Support project closeout processes and archival of CAD drawings.
  • Perform data extractions from AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam Revu.  Setup and maintain Bluebeam studio sessions. Develop and maintain models in Revit and Navisworks
  • Coordinate delivery and receipt of CAD deliverables.
  • Performs all functions of the CAD/BIM/3D modeling process; including but not limited to, hands on drafting work, attending weekly progress meetings, lead coordination/clash detection, and assign duties to multi-trade CAD/BIM/3D team members.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships within our industry, community, and customer base

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Consistent ability to successfully meet deadlines.
