Job Description

The Dams Practice Leader will promote, plan, and implement the Rocky Mountain Branch Dams practice mission and vision to serve our existing clients, develop new clientele, and collaborate amongst our National Practice Leaders to implement regional and corporate initiatives. Reporting to the Branch or Regional Manager, this position will coordinate technical services and staff within the Dams practice to foster collaboration across the branch and region. Manage projects and clients within the practice.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Set the overall strategy and vision to reinforce and expand the Rocky Mountain Dams Practice
  • Identify, develop, pursue, and win opportunities with new and existing clients within Colorado, the Rocky Mountain region, and nationwide
  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and supervise design teams in the design of water infrastructure projects such as dams, spillways, outlet works, hydroelectric facilities, and fish passage facilities
  • Provide technical input and oversight in one or more of the following areas: structural design of concrete hydraulic structures, open channel/spillway hydraulics, embankment dam design, roller compacted concrete.
  • Resolve complex issues to benefit our clients
  • Manage local and national projects
  • May be responsible for Project teams that include 10 or more members often representing multiple business lines, working in remote locations and including subconsultants.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, or equivalent experience
  • 20+ years’ experience in design, project management, and construction of dams and/or hydropower projects
  • Registered professional civil engineer in Colorado (other states a plus)
  • Ability to work with limited supervision; organized; energetic and enthusiastic; and ability to build productive working relationships within the firm and with project teams
  • Qualified applicants will have experience managing projects with $1M-$20M contract value (<$5M-$100M construction value)
  • Understanding of regulatory and permitting environment in Colorado, including work under the jurisdiction of the Colorado Office of the State Engineer Dam Safety Branch and other federal agencies (BIA, USACE, FERC, etc)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in pursuing and winning opportunities for water clients in the Rocky Mountain region
  • Strong reputation in the Colorado market for dams and hydropower services
  • Over twenty years experience in Civil Engineering and Water Resources related fields.
  • We are seeking a civil engineer specializing in water resource engineering with strong analysis and design experience working on large civil works projects such as dams, pipelines, levees, canals, pump stations and related structures.
  • Ability to supervise and direct junior staff.
  • Experience with project management concepts and software. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Candidates should be thoroughly familiar with computerized applications including Microsoft software and structural and hydraulic engineering applications.
  • Knowledgeable of Colorado water institutions and issues is desirable, including the Colorado Division of Water Resources, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and local water providers.
