JMP Solutions runs on the skill and expertise of Controls Specialists.  Responsible for virtually all technical work with respect to projects and service provided to customers, as a Control Specialist with JMP you would have a pivotal role in solving our customer’s business problems using your creativity and technical expertise to create, design and implement innovative controls systems solutions.  Be on the front lines interfacing with customers while providing tier-1 service and support and value-added expertise in the areas of project management and business development.

What Would a Typical Day Look Like?

  • Technically, Controls Specialists will work on various stages of automation and control projects including electrical design, PLC programming HMI design SCADA systems and troubleshooting/testing/debugging
  • Work with the customer’s VP of Infrastructure to lead and deliver a variety of projects to customer satisfaction, on time and on budget while managing and mentoring the necessary resources across the company
  • Lead and assist in the engineering and procurement process by working with suppliers and customer resources to develop, evaluate and communicate ideal design concepts
  • Develop supporting documentation consistent with the Project Execution Process including quoting, sales and concept development
  • Interact with all levels of management, clients, contractors and vendors
  • Given the client-focused nature of the work, employees may be required to work over weekends or outside of standard business hours as needed and travel throughout Canada / USA.

What Qualifies You for this Opportunity?

  • An Engineering Degree or Technology Diploma in Computer, Electrical, Mechatronics, Systems Design or related program
  • 10+ years of experience with PLCs (Allen Bradley), HMI Programming (Factory Talk, PlantPAx), AutoCAD/Electrical Design, Debug/Testing/Commissioning
  • Knowledge around manufacturing processes within the agriculture or food and beverage space is beneficial
  • Extensive experience in vendor management, equipment procurement as well as strong organization and planning skills
  • Well developed critical thinking skills, able to autonomously make sound decisions and problem-solve with limited supervision
  • A strong knowledge of relevant technology in the market place
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
  • Motivated and passionate about working with people and overcoming challenges through collaboration and a win-win paradigm
  • Works well with a variety of different people from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
