The Junior Energy Engineer assists and supports experienced staff members in project management, project design, and various aspects of what we build, audit, commission and manage for our customers.

They may also be involved in the programming, or commissioning of the systems we install.  These projects generally include retrofit of buildings, but may include new construction as well.

Job Description:

The Junior Energy Engineering position will work closely with the sales team, the project management team, and clients and partners to design, manage and develop building energy improvements to reduce energy costs.  The technologies include all facets of

The successful candidate will support AEC in project development and management or commissioning in various manners.  These support functions include by gathering and or entering data from on-site audits, performing electrical or engineering calculations for efficiency and facility improvement measures, and supporting other work.

You will work on new and retrofit projects that improve facility operations, especially energy and/or water efficiency.

Our projects also incorporate renewable energy whenever possible.

The projects often address the following systems: lighting, lighting controls, HVAC, HVAC controls, water fixtures, ancillary systems and equipment (distributed generation, cooking kitchens, pools, etc.), renewable energy (solar PV, solar thermal, etc.) systems, and metering systems (energy, water, sub-metering, etc.). These projects improve the occupancy conditions inside the facilities while reducing operating and maintenance costs and the use of natural resources.

Experience or Education in associated industries is preferred.  These industries include Solar, Electrical, Distribution, Engineering, mechanical, and similar industries or studies.

Depending upon experience and capability hands on work may be involved.
 
Additional LEED and or energy modeling experience are a plus.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

You will serve as support to AEC staff engineers, our clients, and our partners. For example, you will:

A day in the life of the successful candidate:

  • Assist on Auditing sites for energy measures.
  • Prepare for and accompany senior staff on site visits/audits. This will involve data collection from equipment inventories, on-site measurements, and client interviews.
  • Gather and input utility bill data for electric, gas, water, and other energy meters.
  • Develop and analyze efficiency and renewable energy measures for utility savings.
  • Assist in identifying and developing measures, preparing audit reports, and with a variety of client communications (meetings, emails, presentations, etc).
  • Communicate daily with staff to review the status of your work.
  • Assist with data entry or calculations and drawings for select efficiency measures.

Required Skills or Qualifications:

  • 0-5 years of work experience in HVAC design, energy engineering, or similar consulting engineering work.
  • Prior design-build and/or performance contracting experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication (written and oral) in English.
  • Understanding of one or multiple segments of building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, structural) a plus.
  • Experience with energy/water efficiency and renewable energy systems a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.

The ideal candidate will also fulfill the following:

  • Pass background check (required).
  • Pass an initial drug test and subsequent random drug tests (required).
  • Hold a valid drivers license and provide your own mode of transportation (required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSME or BSEE
  • Supervisory experience for the management position.
  • Prior experience with energy rates or calculations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering. Other degrees may be considered with appropriate work experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel VBA, AutoCAD/Revit, and energy modeling software (eQUEST, Trane Trace, Energy Plus) preferred.
