The Board of Directors of Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative, Inc. (GMEC) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief Executive Officer/General Manager to succeed its retiring CEO.  Candidates must have at least five years of senior management-level experience, preferably in the electric utility industry, possess sound financial knowledge and judgment, and have exceptional motivational and public speaking skills.  It is highly desirable that a candidate’s management experience be at an electric distribution cooperative.  A bachelor’s degree or equivalent senior management experience is important.

The successful candidate must have high ethical standards, a strong work ethic, and effective leadership, communication and team-building skills, along with strong interpersonal and people skills.

The successful candidate must be a strategic thinker and should be knowledgeable in the areas of strategic planning, financial management, rate forecasting, budgeting, human resource management, and member and community relations.  Experience in working with a board of directors is a plus.

GMEC is an electric distribution cooperative serving approximately 17,000 farms, homes and commercial accounts in nine counties in Southeastern Ohio. Through its 45 employees, GMEC’s mission is to provide quality electric energy and other services at the lowest cost consistent with sound economy and good management.  It maintains approximately 2,800 miles of lines, has approximately $34 million in annual revenues, and $81 million of total utility plant.  GMEC receives its wholesale power from Buckeye Power, Inc.  It is also a member of the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, NRECA, CFC, CoBank, NISC, CRC and Federated Insurance.

GMEC’s headquarters is located in New Concord, Ohio, 60 minutes east of Columbus, Ohio, and home to Muskingum University.  The area offers regional centers for health care, services and shopping; and is home to the The Wilds, the John & Annie Glenn Historic Site, Zane State College and Ohio University-Zanesville, Artist Colony Zanesville Art Center, pottery factories and outlets, antique shops, wineries and more. The area is also known for great outdoor recreational activities at Blue Rock, Dillon, and Salt Fork State Parks and Seneca Lake.
