Welding Trainer trains employees on welding procedures and blueprint reading. 

Duties Summary/Responsibilities:

  • Assists new employees on weld procedures and fabrication of steel components
  • Conducts weld testing: AISC, AWS and CWB
  • Acts in a supervisory role
  • Instructs training on assemblies of steel components/structures
  • Inspects welding preparations and of tack welds during assembly operations
  • Make corrective action on improper weld procedure and techniques
  • Ability to communicate how and why consistent welding procedures are important to employees
  • Interpretation of plans, specifications and standards
  • Inspect the structure’s geometry (if applicable)
  • Comply with safety rules
  • Follow Corporate quality procedures, work instructions or fabrication standards
  • Any other related tasks

Education/Training and Work Experience:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency
  • 10 or more years’ experience in fabrication; interpreting blueprints

Key Technical Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge in welding, metallurgy, and steel fabrication
  • Knowledge of structural steel fabrication and sequencing
  • Extensive knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Ability to read and interpret codes, drawings and specifications related to the contract
  • Strict adherence to company and job specific requirements (dimensional tolerances)
  • Ability to work with others
  • Ability to use standard measuring tools, tape measure, squares, welding gauges
  • Ability to interpret measurements in US Standard and Metric
  • Physical ability to perform inspection and training

Physical Requirements:

 

Must have the ability to perform the following activities and sustain for varying lengths of time: stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, kneel and stoop on a constant basis.  Also must have the ability to push and pull material such as in and out of break and shear.  Must also be able to climb ladders or stairs to work from elevated locations periodically.   Must be able to use hands to reach out of power zone in order to operate welding equipment, sort parts, and operate various types of electric and pneumatic power tools.  May also occasionally have to assume awkward postures to inspect or troubleshoot issues with fabrications.  Ability to fully articulate Shoulder, elbow, hand, and wrist.  Must have the ability to grasp and sustain grip on power tools such as but not limited to: 9” & 4” grinders, needle guns, belt sanders etc. for extended periods of time.  Often lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; use hands, arms and upper body on a frequent basis.  Ability to perform work in variable climate conditions such as but not limited to, hot, cold, dusty, noisy etc.  May also be required to wear appropriate respiratory protection should the need arise.
