Learning and Development Manager

The primary role of the Learning and Development Manager is to define, drive and deliver McGough’s learning and development strategy in support of our People Development strategy. This includes planning, designing, coordinating, delivering, and measuring the effectiveness of learning and development programs and activities in support of the entire organization.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in a role related to Learning and Development.
  • Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills, including group facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience in collaborating, influencing and problem solving with leaders and teams.
  • Proven ability to lead complex organization-wide projects.
  • Demonstrated personal passion for learning and helping others learn
  • Experience in managing training administration and training related costs.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience managing and maintaining Learning Management System (LMS) software.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resource, Learning, Organizational Development or related field.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Construction industry knowledge or experience

 

Office and Travel:

Periodic overnight travel to regional and satellite offices required.

 

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Continuously assess company-wide learning and development needs of the organization. Identify and deploy training solutions to meet those needs.
  • Partner with business leaders to effectively prioritize and execute delivery of programs, ensuring that the unique scheduling, geographical and training method of teams are met.
  • In conjunction with the VP of HR, build annual learning and development strategy. Build and monitor budget throughout year.
  • In conjunction with Senior Leadership, develop, communicate, and deploy the organization’s Emerging Leaders program to appropriate audiences.
  • Actively search, creatively design, and implement effective methods to build the knowledge, skills and competencies of our employees tied to that strategy.
  • Stay on top of training best practices and industry developments.
  • Develop and maintain the organization’s annual training calendar, as well as stay connected to any other departmental-level training needs that arise throughout the year.
  • Identify best approach to delivering training (in-house vs. external) and lead procurement of external training resources.
  • Ensure effective data collection, tracking, and reporting of all training activities through BirdDog HR Learning Management System.
  • Ensure effective tracking and measurement of training effectiveness, engagement, and skills adoption
  • Partner with HR team and hiring managers to support effective onboarding and retention of new hires through the company’s onboarding process.
  • Drive continued adoption of the Individual Development Plan process and tools through partnership with managers, through the delivery of IDP training for new hires, and by meeting with employees to support their individual development plan activities.
  • Develop content and supporting training materials including participant and leader guide materials and presentations.
  • Facilitate training as needed.

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee’s work station and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, employee will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
