POSITION GOAL

 

The Head Start/Early Head Start Comprehensive Services Supervisor/Teacher is a management position that supervises Head Start/Early Head Start operations at a specific site as well as teaches in a preschool classroom.  The position is responsible for building a team that will plan, implement and maintains a nurturing and supportive educational program for participating families and children.  The position oversees the day-to-day implementation of all Head Start/Early Head Start component and DHS Licensing standards.  The Supervisor assures that all Head Start families served at the site receive comprehensive program services. 

 

Wage and Schedule

 

Monday-Friday 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM; $21.18; Position starts effectively August 5, 2019.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Ensure compliance, program records, and documentation required for HACAP programs, child-care licensing regulations, CACFP, Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act and funding requirements.
  2. Supervise, hire, and evaluate program staff working in classrooms and with families, including coordination of staff/volunteer schedules.
  3. Responsible for classroom oversight and management.
  4. Plan and carry out daily lesson plans in keeping with HACAP program requirements and Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act, CLASS dimensions, developmentally appropriate practices, component plans, children's interests, and individual goals and strategies.
  5. Fill in as a Substitute in a Head Start/Early Head Start classroom and perform job duties required to meet child ratios or to keep the site operational.
  6. Supervise and facilitate the coordination of center services with the interdisciplinary team and other human service professionals toward service coordination.
  7. Inform Head Start/Early Head Start Director of center issues, which may affect program or agency compliance or image.
  8. Supervise the coordination of social service/parent involvement services at the center, and provide guidance to counselors, family and service staff.
  9. Oversee and attend parent committee meetings.
  10. Advocate for families in the program and encourage their participation in all levels of program activities.
  11. Develop an effective partnership with parents based on mutual trust and respect.
  12. Maintain ongoing communication both formal and informal with parents.
  13. Provide guidance to staff supervised.
  14. Promote a supportive environment that reinforces working together as a team.
  15. Maintain clean and sanitary classroom, kitchen, bathroom, outdoor play area and entryway area utilized by children and their families before, during and after class as needed. Follow established maintenance requirements of the Head Start Early Head Start program.
  16. Participate in program assessment.
  17. Performs other duties as directed by the HS/EHS Director.

Education and/or Experience

 

  1. Current State of Iowa Early Childhood Teacher License

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

 

  1. Receive clearance by the Iowa Department of Human Services on child abuse and criminal checks prior to hire and resubmit every two (2) years.
  2. Receive clearance thru National FBI fingerprint checks.  Fingerprints must be submitted for national check prior to hire or start date at the center.  Resubmit every four (4) years.
  3. Pass a pre-employment health examination and subsequent health examinations every two (2) years thereafter.
  4. Provide TB screening clearance upon hire and every two (2) years thereafter.
  5. Complete Bloodborne Pathogen (Universal Precautions) within ten (10) days of employment and update annually.
  6. Complete Child Abuse Mandatory Reporting Training within three (3) months of employment and update every two (2) years.
  7. Obtain first aid training within three (3) months of employment and update every two (2) years.
  8. Obtain CPR training within three (3) months of employment and update every two (2) years.
  9. Complete CCDBG Essentials training within ninety (90) days of employment and update every five (5) years.
  10. Attend a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of in-service training annually.
  11. Training activities must be accomplished within work hours scheduled or training hours approved by HACAP.
  12. Reliable transportation for use on the job.
  13. Valid driver’s license and valid car insurance.
  14. Paid time and mileage calculated from the nearest HACAP service site to the population cluster to be served by the employee or from the employee’s residence whichever is nearer.
  15. Maintain and keep current credentials for position requirements.
