Position:  Employment Specialist (HVRP)
Location:  Dallas-Fort Worth, TX

Rate of Pay:  $40,000

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

The HVRP (Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program) Employment Specialist is responsible for providing job search assistance, job retention services, case management and follow up for clients enrolled in the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program funded by the Department of Labor. The Employment Specialist is responsible for developing training on resume writing and interview techniques, and other soft skills needed for client success. Other essential duties also include developing and hosting internal job fairs and maintaining a data base of job placement resources.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Develops and maintains contacts and interfaces with the appropriate staff of community agencies to facilitate job placements.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts individual and group sessions related to employment.
  • Develops resources to provide effective training and deliver weekly training in portfolio development, resume writing, proper dress and interview techniques.
  • Develops individualized job searching strategies for job seekers.
  • Participates in job fairs and community employment recruitment activities.
  • Prepares monthly reports of classes delivered, client job leads, number of clients employed.
  • Completes job verifications with new employers and maintain a copy in the client file.
  • Communicates effectively with community partners, vendors and agencies.
  • Compiles and studies occupational, educational, and economic information to aid clients in making and carrying out vocational and educational goals and objectives.
  • Refers eligible clients to occupational training programs that fit their occupational interests and individual aptitudes. Works effectively with clients in identifying employment, training and vocational needs and potential career options; selecting appropriate training programs, and developing individualized employment and benefits plant to address barriers such as to include but not limited to mental health, substance abuse, housing, social services and legal aid.
  • Creates an Individual Employment Plan for each client, including measurable short-term and long-term action items and timelines.
  • Meets regularly with clients, documenting progress or regress, conducts case reviews, and keys program database entries as required.
  • Markets homeless Veteran job seekers to employers, business owners, government agencies, community leaders and other types of hiring representatives for purposes of employing participants.
  • Maintains relationships with potential employers by making regularly scheduled contact via follow-up calls and office visits, participating in job fairs, and attending events.
  • Assists homeless Veterans in locating appropriate work by directly arranging and coordinating interviews between participants and hiring managers.
  • Provides program retention and follow-up activities post program completion.
  • Outreaches directly to targeted population of Veterans through partner agencies.
  • Promotes an organizational culture that fosters passion for the mission, cooperation, open and frequent communication, teamwork, and is in alignment with the organizational vision.
  • Attends all required meetings and training.
  • Performs other duties and special assignments as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in business, social work, or related field, OR experience in job placement.
  • Military Veteran status is preferred.
  • Valid Texas Drivers’ License.
