Mennonite Village, a premiere not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community in Oregon's beautiful Mid-Willamette Valley, is seeking a Full Time Wellness Program Instructor to assist the Mennonite Village residents and employees to focus on what they can do to lead healthy and active lives. The Wellness Program Instructor is an individual with demonstrated skill and education in the area of wellness programming and physical fitness for older adults.

Shift: Days- 40 hours per week.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
    1. Provide for a safe environment for exercise and wellness activities;
    2. Screen and orient individuals       to the Wellness Center;
    3. Provide individual and group instruction in physical fitness and wellness activities. Classes may include but not limited to the following: arthritis based programming, Better Bones and Balance, Tai Chi, Flexibility, Zumba.
    4. Maintain employee and resident records as well as other pertinent forms;
    5. Educate participants in exercise routines and the use of equipment;
    6. Develop alternative routines and exercise patterns to meet the needs of individuals requiring adaptive methods;
    7. Integrate goals, assessment data, and principles of exercise science to design, implement, and evaluate individual and group programs;
    8. Provide a supportive and motivating environment;
    9. Monitor use of the Wellness Center by residents and employees;
    10. Provide for the maintenance and cleaning of the facility and equipment;
    11. Participate in ongoing exercise and wellness in-service training;
    12. Assist with Wellness Program activities and events;
    13. Attend meetings and perform other       duties as assigned by the supervisor;
    14. Regular attendance and punctuality is an essential function of the job.
    15. Abides by the HIPAA policies and reports to a supervisor, breaches (or violations) of our HIPAA policies.
    16. Immediately reports identified hazards or hazardous conditions to a supervisor.
    17. Immediately reports adverse events and near misses to a supervisor.
    18. Attends mandatory training on HIPPA and compliance annually.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Knowledge of theories, standards and techniques related to exercise and wellness for older adults;
    • Maintain an understanding of the latest health and physical activity research and its applications to older adults;
    • Apply industry guidelines (e.g., NSCA, ACSM, ACE, ACOG) to referral, exercise assessment, and physical activity programming;
    • National certification preferred in any of these accredited organizations; or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire date;
    • Degree in exercise physiology, sports science, or a health related field preferred;
    • Current CPR and AED certification and knowledge of first aid services;
    • Willingness to obtain certification for specialized classes;
    • Knowledge of the dimensions of wellness, basics of behavioral change and health psychology;
    • Knowledge of and supportive of Mennonite Village mission and philosophy;
    • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and resident confidentiality;
    • Ability to work with and communicate effectively with older adults;
    • Ability to accurately document activities;
    • Ability to safely carry, lift, stand, sit, bend, reach, and kneel throughout the workday;
    • Ability to push and/or pull wheelchairs and other equipment;
