HUMAN RESOURCE SPECIALIST

The primary role of the Human Resources (HR) Specialist is to support the various HR and payroll-related processes throughout the lifecycle of employment on our Vision Northland project in Duluth, MN.  This includes recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding.  This role remotely reports to the HR Director, located at our headquarters in Roseville, MN. 

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 3+ years of related experience.
  • Possesses a passion for helping others with a strong customer-service mindset.
  • Proven ability to work independently with a willingness to seek assistance when needed.
  • Excellent attention to detail, oral and written communication skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.

Preferred:

  • Construction industry knowledge or experience.

 

Office and Travel:

Periodic overnight travel to Headquarters office required.

 

Responsibilities and Tasks:

In support of non-union and union employees:

  • Provide onboarding support by:
    • Completing and routing new hire paperwork.
    • Initiating new hire paperwork in our talent management system.
    • Initiating E-verify checks.
    • Initiating drug screens.
    • Ensuring all necessary employees have a flu shot.
  • Throughout employees tenure:
    • Complete and route necessary forms for any changes like pay, etc.
    • Ensure changes to employee profile are completed and communicated to HR and payroll. Examples include: change in address, W4, bank account info, etc.
    • Serve as a liaison to field and payroll to ensure updates on hours, per diem, timekeeping and pay are accurate in our systems.
    • Ensure initial workers compensation reports are completed and sent to HR. Follow up with any local staff on necessary issues or information needed.
    • Serve as a liaison with HR on any employee relations issues that may arise.

In support of non-union employees:

  • Create offer letters for candidates, route for approval and send to candidates.
  • Assist with interviewing as needed.
  • Meet with new employees to review benefits information, gather enrollment paperwork and process enrollment.
  • Coordinate technology needs for new hires with IT.
  • Coordinate access needs and ensure new employee has required badging, fobs, etc.
  • Upon termination:
    • Complete termination checklist and review with employee including gathering all required items.
    • Ensure HR and payroll are apprised of terminations to ensure timely processing of final pay, etc.
    • Ensure necessary items are returned to HQ.

Other administrative duties as needed.

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee’s work station and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, employee will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
