Legacy Community Health is a premium, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides comprehensive care to community members regardless of their ability to pay. Our roots began in 1981 as the Montrose Clinic, with specialization in HIV education, testing, and treatment. Since then, the agency has expanded to 10 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include: Adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision and behavioral health. Job Description
The Vice President of Development will have primary responsibility for establishing, developing and implementing the infrastructure to build the plans, programs, and policies needed to support fundraising activities; through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support.
Essential Functions
- Develops strategies that will result in major gifts and broad-based annual giving.
- Develops deferred gift and other donor programs.
- Consults with individual organizations to maximize fund-raising capabilities.
- Coordinates organization sponsored special events programs and seminars for the purposes of fund-raising.
- Works with Chief Development Officer to manage a cohesive and comprehensive program for securing major gifts from individual donors, foundations, and corporations.
- Develops new sources of contributed income including individual, corporate, foundation, and government program services funding.
- Creates and maintains a personal annual portfolio of approximately 250 individual and corporate prospects and donors. Donor strategies include: identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors via one-on-one meetings, telephone conversations, written correspondence, and emails.
- Developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Writing grants when necessary.
- Directly soliciting and closing gifts.
- Implementing donor stewardship and recognition opportunities.
- Managing campaign committee and all correspondence.
- Maintain excellent records and follow through.
- Provide oversight to membership based fundraising initiatives (e.g., Lights of Legacy, Link2Legacy)
- Manage select staff and oversee associated areas of responsibility (e.g., database management, annual fund, strategic events).
- Develop and manage, as appropriate, new funding initiatives and mini-campaigns in partnership with CDO and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Training Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field from an accredited university
Work Experience
- Minimum of Eight (8) years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience involving major gifts prospect portfolio management as a front-line fundraiser, including knowledge of proven cultivation/solicitation techniques for gifts at all dollar levels with identified success in major gift fundraising.
- Excellent knowledge of the contemporary issues and methods of institutional advancement and fundraising.
- Successful experience soliciting $1 Million+ gifts.
- Skilled in using the following fundraising software/tools: Raiser Edge NXT / Crescendo
