The Project Engineer (PE) shall support the Project Manager (PM), and Superintendent (Supt) as required in order for them to meet their goals through all phases of a project.

Primary Duties

  • Responsible for managing the submittal process from working with subcontractors through approvals with owners/architects
  • Responsible for managing the RFI process which includes working with Superintendents and Project Managers to understand questions or issues
  • Responsible for managing the change order proposal process with owners and subcontractors. Includes recognizing changes associated with drawing revisions, costs arising from RFIs and recognizing unforeseen issues
  • Work closely with the PM and Supt by providing research, backup support, legwork, data entry etc. as requested
  • Complete budget revisions and modifications as required throughout the job
  • Assist to maintain a high level of safety in alignment with Abbott's core values
  • Ability to combine knowledge of engineering methods, construction methods and human management skills
  • Provide support for planning, scheduling and coordinating projects to meet deadlines
  • Maintain schedules and budgets while managing lead times and quality control
  • Offer support to the estimating department by soliciting subcontractors for projects as well as managing and distributing plans
  • Be the main point of contact for subcontractors as requested by the Project Manager
  • Understand and enforce subcontract agreements and owner agreements
  • Review drawings and specifications for conflicts and inconsistencies to compare for pricing
  • Prepare agendas and manage meeting minutes for various types of meetings
  • If needed, act as a Project Manager when a Project Manager is unavailable

Required Skills

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
  • Understand accounting, financial statements, job cost, and cash flow
  • Customer service oriented
  • Experience with or desire to work in the following projects: Tenant Improvements and Healthcare
  • Attention to quality of finishes and technical detail when performing construction
  • Ability to read construction drawings and understand specifications
  • Independent, creative problem solver, who is driven to do what is right
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • 4 year degree in a construction related major
  • Motivated for a long term career in construction
  • 5 years' project engineering experience
