Waypoint Services for Women, Children and Families provides child care to approximately 600 children ages 0 to 12 years of age. Waypoint also provides shelter and support to women and children in crisis because of homelessness, domestic violence or sexual assault. For over 100 years, Waypoint has been meeting the changing needs of women and children in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and surrounding rural areas.

POSITION SUMMARY

Waypoint is seeking a full time Head Cook for our KidsPoint program, year-round. Duties include preparing and serving food, and cleaning the kitchen area.  May also make lunch deliveries using a company van.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare daily breakfast, lunch and snacks for the child care center
  • Clean working surfaces daily 
  • Wash and sanitize dishes, preparation and serving equipment
  • Clean stove, refrigerator, kitchen cupboards and storage areas as necessary
  • Take care of kitchen laundry
  • Support the Food Service Director with food inventory
  • Inform the Food Service Director of situations related to kitchen duties assigned
  • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the work environment

  • Promote Waypoint team concept by being courteous and helpful to other employees and clients
  • Accurately maintain necessary forms and records and submit in a timely manner, especially Accident/Incident Report Forms
  • Complete time cards and/or employment records accurately and submit on time to supervisor
  • This position may require occasional evening and weekend work hours
  • Work with supervisor to develop a professional growth plan
  • Attend in-service training 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Waypoint

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma, GED or in progress work toward same
  • Two years of food service experience preferred
  • ServSafe certified or willingness to obtain ServSafe certification

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Receive a negative report on the Waypoint/DHS Non-Law Enforcement Records Check
  • Must have valid driver's license and be insurable to meet the requirements of Waypoint’s insurance provider
